Problem: Turn left and bright lights come on, Help
2000 S-type, when driving at night, and turn left, the bright lights turn on. It's seems like when the steering wheel is spinning back to the right after turning it flips the brights on, I first thought my left hand was hitting the turn signal switch but not so, any ideas? I'm thinking something inside the steering column has broke and is causing this.

Yes, I took the switch out, just two phillips on the shroud, and two on the switch, I took the switch apart to see if anything obvious was broken, electro-mechanical with springs and plastic sliding pieces, didn't find anything, put it back in and the brights were on permanent, so much for my repair skills LOL. Found out a Pick n Pull in Pensacola has two S-types, $17.50 for a switch, went yesterday and also got a chrome bumper piece and the front lower plastic water dam behind the bumper, both of those for $14! Put in the new switch in the parking lot, works fine.

Sorry I'm too late on this one but I had the same exact issue and I just ignored it. It eventually went away. About a year later my RH signal light would not go off unless you put the LH one on.
These cars can appear to be haunted at times ...
So this time all I did was to repeatedly work the signal stalk through the entire range for about fifteen repetitions and it went away.
My car is not high miles so I think it may just be a dirt issue and operating it repeatedly seems to have cleared the problem.

Good job I looked, as it was sheared wires which wouldn't have 'gone away'.

It looks like there was oil or lube on the switch, that may have been part of the problem, it also had an area of grease.
A switch on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market is as low as $15, I need to start exporting Jag parts from the Pick and Pull. Shipping to the UK may be high though, I bought some Raleigh Chopper Bike pedals in the UK for £5, and the shipping was £10.

My Chopper is a late Series one, lime green 3 speed, fairly decent original paint, nice pedals now, missing a hand grip, and tires are shot, small rip in seat but a good original bike. I also have a self assembled clone 69 Apple Krate, an original fair condition Orange Krate, a restored Lemon Peeler, and a repro 2006 Pea Picker, among other Stingrays, and an adult sized Schwinn Spoiler chopper.

Nice bikes. I have no idea what a Krate is, but your Chopper is the same as mine except mine was Orange. They re released the Chopper over here a few years ago, but it was a watered down version, no match for the original.
Some of the kids my age at the time, welded extra long forks to their Choppers, so they looked even more Easy Rider. With the weight balance changed by doing this, if you leaned back even an inch, the bike pulled a wheelie just before you feel off the back.
