Default question about heating not working

I took my Jag, to a mechanic to get it looked at,they told me they did not have the tool, to get to the module. What kind of tool would that be?
When i turn the heat on, it blows cool, not hot, and it does not blow hard at all. The mechanic told me I would need to take it to a JAG dealer. I am trying to avoid Jag dealers, way to exspensive. anyway, does anyone know what tool they are talking about?

2002 s type 4.0

Well, first thing I would do is reconsider the mechanic / shop I was taking my car to. Why would they jump right to the module without checking other things out first?
The heating system is no more complex on the Jaguar than any other car with auto climate control. The heat still works with a flow of engine coolant through a heater core like every other car. That flow is controlled by the engine thermostat and what is called a DCCV (Dual Climate Control Valve) or the heater valve. The DCCV is a known failure point on all S Types.. Also, considering the age of your car, it may mean that some of the interior temperature sensors may need to be cleaned.
The tool this "mechanic" is referring to is probably Jaguar's IDS system. This is the computer tool that a Jaguar technician would plug into a car and allow him/her to run diagnostic tests and update software for the car. The only place I've ever heard that has that is a licensed dealer. But again, a decent mechanic would look at and test the simple stuff first. Oh, BTW, if you read up on here you will see a great many threads about heat issues and almost all of them lead to the DCCV or thermostat. Now very few end up with a bad module, but almost all of those are 2003 and up cars that have an entirely different module than the early cars.

There's more than one pump, which did you change?
Part no?

How did you diagnose that it was the pump and not the usual parts that fail?

I read on this forum somewhere that the DCCV would get stuck sometimes (when it fails it fails open heat all the time). If it is stuck I read that you could run your temperature controls all the way up until your reading on the climate control module reads from temperature to HI then run it all the way down until your climate control module reads LO. I read that this might unstick the valve. I'm not sure but this is what I have read on this site.

Check the FAQs for Ford equivalent part - much cheaper.

Also check old messages about how to change it.

Hi Pamela
I don't know what is the part number for you DCCV which is for 5 heater hose
but mine 05 STR DCCV is around $90 in Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorcraft-YG3...3122259&sr=8-1

this is ford parts which can be used for Jag.

good luck (search for the cross reference part between Ford and Jag) in the S type forum.

good luck.

It'll likely be much cheaper to use the FAQ.
