Is it locked? Could be a faulty lock actuator. I cannot attach link but do an advanced search for "rear lock actuator" in the "S Type" board. It's a DIY with pictures.

If unlocked, this may help. On my '02, the rear doors can occasionally be difficult to open from the outside. The exterior handle will move about half way and then bind. It feels like the handle will break if pulled further.

If you push in slightly on the door, this seems to release tension on the latch and then the handle travels fully and the door opens normally.

Only the back doors act up, probably due to less use. The interior handles always work fine for my passengers. Only the exterior handles bind. Might be worth reaching inside from the front to try. Or from the outside, try gently pushing on the door to unload the latch.

Once you get the door open, make sure nothing is caught in the door jamb area, such as the seatbelt. That could cause enough outward pressure to make the latch bind.

Thanks to everyone for your advice. You won't believe this but the door has just started opening again!

It will fail again. I'd fix it now, when it's easier.

We believe you.

Did you try the two suggestions listed in post #4? That might help isolate the fault. My mind-reading skills aren't what they used to be, so we still aren't sure if your door won't unlock, or if the door unlocks just fine but the latch won't release.
