Rear window shade
although my R is a low spec car, it has the rear window pull-upable sun screen!!
However I have been totally unable to find any switch to activate it!!
I believe the switch sits normally in the middle of the three switches above the bonnet opener, but my middle switch is unmarked and solid!
W E I R D!!

.thanks. You are right. I can hear it engage, but it is stuck. I will try and pull it up.
Now managed to pull it up. Works. Will lubricate/clean.
Thanks again.
I almost thought it had been fitted but not connected.
An English friend of mine, living in Holland, once bought and MGC. The seller said he loved the car, but he drove a lot in Germany, and the car was just too lowly geared for the speeds he was expected to do on those roads, so he had now found an MGC car with overdrive, which he had bought. My friend paid him and took the car which was in very good condition, to a friend with a garage and a hoist to check brakes and everything underneath.
As the car was being inspected, they discovered there was indeed already an overdrive unit fitted! It was just not connected! In those days an MGC could be specced with or without OD, the price difference was about 10 Pounds (or something like that).
So apparently if you didn't specified and paid for an OD, it would no be connected! It was still there!
He never had the heart to go back and tell the seller. He ran a wire and installed a flip switch, and had an OD, never used! for free!!
Strange but true!

Thats a crazy funny story SRT! Not too different a story these days with some cars having the options factory prewired and installed but with no module to operate them... Years later you can buy the module cheap and the option works!
Careful with the rear sun blind as it only has plastic sliders in its rail/track that easily break. It is a German made unit that is nearly identical to the BMW ones. Thankfully due to the similarity the plastic sliders are available on fleabay and are the same.
Only use silicone grease in the track/rail.
