Default Removing these Dents

I have just bought this 2007 S Type 2.7 Diesel with these massive dents in the roof, I have contacted a couple of the dent repair people, but it is to bad for them to tackle, I have thought about getting a roof from another s type from the scrappy and swopping it over, any suggestions would be welcome.

Hello Paul,

First thing, define "massive" please. Was the car rolled on its roof or received similar extensive damage affecting the door/sunroof openings?

You mentioned the "dent removal people" didn't want to touch it. Are you talking about paintless dent removal or a full-fledged body shop? The former are generally limited to small areas with the paint still intact. Generally they are also limited to fresh damage, as the paint can actually take a set to the contour of the dent.

On the other hand, a full body shop can handle practically anything, including the replacement of an entire roof, if needed. The major limit is the size of your wallet. Some body shops might shy away from such a major repair, as they tend to prefer smaller, faster jobs that require much less skill. However, if you ask around, there are places that will handle such major undertakings. It won't be cheap, though. If this is an insurance claim, the car would probably be written off.

I'm not quite sure if you are asking about replacing the roof yourself. If so, don't touch it. That's a MAJOR undertaking affecting the structural integrity of the car, not to mention the fit of the doors. You would have to be a highly experienced auto body repairman to tackle such an undertaking, but since you're asking, I have to assume that's not the case.

One small suggestion?

Try to post all pictures to the list. When you have them hosted remotely somewhere they only last so long and then disappear. We have a number of very good threads with great pictures that are now missing. You will just see red X's.

I was unable to see your pictures but wonder how the damage happened?

Hi Thanks for the information, Yes I spoke to a small dent specialsit, The dents are to deep for them to repair. I have another guy who is going to take a look at it, At the moment I am looking at 2 options, If I can get one of the specialist to have a go, They are just brilliant at gettting the shape back, even if I have to finish it with body filler, The other option is to cut out the inner section of the roof and weld a new piece in, It wont be easy but I have seen some amazing things done on cars. If I cut a section out, and say leaving about 8" all round, this should not afeft the car structure. I am open to any suggestions.

My feeling is you'll have to drive the car to a body shop not expect anyone to come to you as they won't be able to do it.

Default Roof all fixed

With a lot of hard work, the roof has come out brilliant, Panel beat most of it out, and then a very thin layer of filler, I cant see a single ripple in it.

Good repair but I am still curious about how they got in there in the first place?
Very odd looking dents too?

Default Dents

Some stupid idiot jumped on the roof, the car I bought from an auction with the roof and a few dents on the drivers side. I am so pleased with how it has come out, I lot of hard work but worth it.
