Question retrofit VACM Voice Module on a pre2002

hiya all.

Just bought a voice controle module that for my 2000 4.0 V8. My car has just about all options but no voice control, so I needed to add it. According to all I found on the net all pre-2002 should have the right plugs prewired in the boot behind the plate that hold the SatNav unit. But after removing the plate no male connectors were found. I found some other is the spare wheel well, but these are not for the VACM (does anyone know what they are for?)
The loom looks untempered. Does anyone know were the wires to the module come out of the loom? I just need to know if I have been looking at the right places.

Hi, did you sorted out the wires?

Ooh. Rust... Quick get the wire brush, drill and Hammerite out! Not sure about answering your question but have you looked on the other side of the boot, just in case you were told the wrong side? Didn't the later models have the satnav on the right side of the trunk instead of the left? I'm sure I read that somewhere.
Excuse me a moment while I flagellate myself for using the term 'trunk' instead of 'boot'. I'm sorry, I can't help it. I'm English.

Hi, I've had Entry version MY 2000 3.0. It came without any of the extra features. I've added cd changer to glove box and navscreen and nav reader to the trunk, premium sound as well. The wires for these things was present.
Now I want to add VACM, and couldn't find the wires to VACM and phone in trunk/boot - the roof mic plug in loom suprisingly is present.
The car has original wiring looms.

The question:
Is it possible that this particular instance of car contains wires for roof mic and is not pre-wired for VACM/phone module in boot/trunk?

In my ST-R the connector for the voice module was hidden between the cabling in some foam. You also need an optical Y cable.

Hi! Thank you for answer.

I didn't found the VACM connector, however there's some free connector which most likely is used to connect part of wiring loom for phone module and VACM module part e.g. XR816414(XR8T-18K925-AE/DD), currently I'm looking for that wire (it's hard to find it, so if anyone has such loom to sell it would be great).

Since this is pre-facelift car it has no optical network.

I have done extensive research on this forum to see what is missing in my car so that I can complete it. So far I have installed the Premium Audio package and the last gadget would be the Voice Control. I have only looked at facelift cars so I was not aware of the lacking of the optical network in pre-facelift cars.

Do you have the phone module? If not, do check of the microphones are there. I have read somewhere that they are only fitted from the factory if there was a phono module.

Succes

Hello
Yeah, I also added Premium Audio/Nav - because my Jag was really basic model - I haven't had the phone module,

There was no mic also - but I've checked and there are wires and connector in the roof.

I've bought the VACM module, the mic, and I think olny thing I have to get is the wiring loom (part.no XR8T-18K925-AE/DD) which has to be connected to main loom.

Yep, the optical was added to facelifts.

After connecting the voice module to the optical network and just put the connector from photo 1 in the VACM it works. The other smaller chassis connector is not needed, maybe only in pre-facelift cars?

So now I have Premium Audio, CD Changer Minidisc player and Voice Control. I hope you get lucky too Jagsthom.

Congratulations and thanks

This harness is the only thing I missing - hopefully I'll find one.

Thank you

Yes, I have them as well, but the soldering will be the last depot (I'm not to good at that), I still believe that I'll be able to buy that wire, as I want to have as close to the factory wiring as possible

I bought the wire, it was plug and play, connect the cable to the plug, connect the microphone to the roof console and... it's alive.
Many people told me that's pointless to have the VACM these times, but it's really nice feature considering car is 22 years old

My 05MY car had voice control from new, it did not have the CD changer or bluetooth.
I have since fitted both the CD changer and the later 2010 x-type and XJ bluetooth module, they both work fine.
However, there are no voice control commands for these two new added modules.
The only way to add them is to use the Jaguar SDD software to update the voice control module.
I have never bothered to do this and just use the screen controls.
