S-Type 2004 Transmission and FOB problems
Hi,
I'm having a problem with my 2 FOB's for the 2'nd time. Both were replaced by dealer in Feb '11 with new batteries. Last week, I had to get very close to the car before it would work. Then it stopped working altogether. Got out spare FOB and it worked a few times, then failed by then end of the day. So now, 2 FOB's that don't work. I put in new batteries and tested if they were transmitting at Checkers (now O'Rileys). 1 works the other not. Must have broken it when inserting battery.
Can anyone point me to a thread to address this. I have been searching and have found the 'turn ignition on 8 times in 10 seconds trick'. Glad that it works for some, not for me though.
Also found someTSB's that seemed close, s501-18, that addresses a Drivers Door Module (DDM) from an '03 s-Type. Fails after sitting (mine sometimes sits for days). This one says if car is operated with key, FOB begins working again.
I'm guessing that the FOB probably has to be programmed by the dealer (appointment on 5/23/11), but this does not explain why it failed so soon with new FOBS and batteries in Feb '11.
I'm also anticipating trouble with the dealer, because I had a problem with the FOB's honking the horn when locking back in FEB '11. If you then unlocked it (with FOB and not touching the car) and then locked it again it did not honk.
Only Jag dealer here in Tucson told me that they could not figure it out, so they would not be fixing it. The car is under warranty! I told him that I have a warranty that I paid thousands of $'s for and would not be picking it up until it was fixed and that I did not care if he had to change out the whole wiring harness. I then asked him, by the way did you try changing the batteries?
No. Changed batteries and reprogrammed (I think), and the both worked fine until last week.
If anyone can point me somewhere it would be greatly appreciated. Everything I read seems to point me to this DDM, but can't find an exact match. As I said, I'm bring the car in Monday to get fixed, but I am anticipating trouble from this uncooperative dealer who will probably not do much research.
Would you think the failing 2'nd failing FOB would be covered by the warranty purchased from this Jag Dealer? (One transmits, one not).
Also, I have had a couple of problems with the transmission that have been fixed. It was stuck in 1'st gear and would not shift to 2'nd (twice). Yellow message on dash and codes in CCM. Fixed under warranty and has not re-occurred. Then leak from transmission in Feb '11. I asked for a new transmission under warranty due to all the issues, but they said Jag refused.
Now to the current transmission issue, when driving down the freeway about 70, accelerated and HEARD and FELT loud clunk when down shift. I'm guessing that it should have gone from 6 to 5 or 4, but felt like it went to 2'nd for a couple of seconds and then back to 6.
Been searching on this one as well and found some lurching TSB's (S307-12 & 19) but again, not an exact match. Lots of issues with these ZF26's (sp?) I know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My car is under extended warranty until 4/12, but am anticipating little help from the dealer on 5/23/11. Ironicly, the extended warranty was purchased from them!
Sorry this is so long, but needed some detail to explain.
Thanks for any advice or steering me somewhere! https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/i...ns/icon7.gifGB

The repair on the trans may not have included a new crossover sleeve thus leaking internally. You'll find plenty of this using the forums search threads feature. You may benefit from a hard reset (disconnect both cables form battery terminals, touch them together for 15 minutes then reconnect) of the ECU and TCM. The transmission control module likely learned a poor shift sequence thus resetting it and driving for 300 miles in "Normal" mode (not "Sport") will allow the ECU and TCM to re-learn proper shift sequences.
Thanks much bfsgross. I'm going to print this off and bring it to the dealer Monday! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Boog https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/i...cons/icon7.gif
Only a dealer-type OBD tool can reset the TCM. Battery stuff will NOT do it. All it clears is the PCM.
CCM = climate control module so I think you meant TCM (trans CM). (There's no separate Cruise CM in case that's what you meant.)
