Default S type 2005 demister grill how do you remove - RESOLVED

Hi all, can anyone help. I have a 2005 stype luxury model jaguar. I have a fine crack in the plastic trim that sits between the dashboard and windscreen .i think it may be called the dash demister trim grill, the crack is in the centre . My problem is i'm not sure how to remove it? It seems tight .

Here's a diagram from the Parts Manual:

The Demister Grille (item 1) appears to have Blanking Plugs (item 3) concealing Plastic Screws (item 4).

After these are removed, it is also held in place with Spring Clips (item 2).

Look here;

I did a detailed write up. No screws on defroster panel. Just clips.

Unless your gonna replace it i wouldnt mess with it. That small single crack will be multiple bigger cracks if you try to remove and glue it. Pull the rubber door seals away from the a post trim. Unsnap the a post trim and using a trim tool (plastic angled piece with a curved handle to slip underneath and pop up) carefully slide underneath the panel and pop up by each clip

That's a good point. We have not found a lower cost provider than Jaguar either. Some people with multiple breaks have glued it from the back side. I was lucky and just had a rattle.

It does seem to be one of those things that happens as the car ages. Hopefully not every car. I have been lucky so far on my SC hose too. I am at 85K miles and counting on the factory hose

Good one, Rizwan.

You can't beat a pic sequence for making a clear explanation.

I think we can safely add 'RESOLVED' to this thread title now.

Dear Brutal

Can you tell me the part number for a S-Type R demister grille. My car is built November 2002, but complianced March 2003. I am struggling to know which one fits my car. Many thanks.

Default Demister panel

Same issue with my '05 R...cracked in center. Many body shops now have nitrogen fusion plastic welding equipment to properly fuse the polypropylene or more simply use stainless steel staples melted into the panel. I sell this equipment in my business and will be using the staple system to fix mine, though the crack will still be barely visible. Used the staples to repair split rocker trim and it did nice job of making lasting repair. Most adhesives, short of body shop grade, won't hold up. Or....in the case of my '05 a panel from a Lincoln LS of the same year will fit and it is of heavier construction though slightly different in style.
