Default S type 2008 - engine oil 10w 60?

Hello, please excuse me if this has been discussed before here.

I usually go to the dealer for servicing S type 2008 (70,000 kilometers), but today went to a random service center...

They've put Voltronic 10w 60 oil, together with 'valve & injector cleaner' and 'visco + oil booster' and recommended next service after 15,000 kms. In the owner's manual 5w 30 oil is recommended. Is the 10w 60 oil safe or I should get it changed, and whether the additives do anything good/bad for the car?

I live in Dubai, and the service schedule recommends servicing every 6 months or 8,000 kms. The car has run 70,000 kms now, and last dealer service was done 62,000 kms.

Any help is appreciated

In my opinion the 10w-60 will be perfectly fine for the ambient temps you have in Dubai, it'll be fine.

I'm not sure that anyone here has used 10W60 and can state one way or the other what the effects will be. I'd speak to the garage and ask their reasoning behind using it versus what is recommended in the owners manual.

The additives were wasted money.

If I recall correctly the owners manual covers the oil and viscosity suggested based on the ambient temperatures in that given area.

It does, hence my question above. I don't think it goes over 50*C in Dubai.

SAE VISCOSITY RATING
For climates ranging from –30°C (-22°F)
to +50°C (+122°F), the following oil
viscosities may be used:
0W–30
5W–30 (preferred)
0W–40
5W–40
Note: For maximum fuel economy, 5w-30
oil is recommended.
It is recommended that the oil level is
topped up using oil of the same viscosity.
If you are unsure which oil viscosity is
used in your vehicle, contact your Jaguar
Dealer for advice.
If you are operating this vehicle in
climates outside the above temperature
range, contact your Jaguar Dealer for
advice.

Many thanks all for your replies. Yes the owner's manual exactly states that, but I read it when I got back home after oil change

The oil is Voltronic 10W60 Ultra Light Running Racing Oil :

Fully Synthetic Low Ash
"Ultra Light Running Racing Oil blended with PAO and POE based. Specially developed for high performance / highly tuned cars, ultimate engine protection under high stress driving on the race event or daily driving. "

Yes, but you're not doing that and only have a 3.0?

I'd go with the Jaguar handbook, every time except with a mainly track-driven STR when I don't know what I'd do (well, look for advice).

You are right. I just do normal city driving, no racing at all! Given my zero knowledge about technical things, I think in future I should just stay with the dealer

Many thanks for the great feedback and education - all forum members
