Default S-type 3.0 V6 motor shakes sometimes

Hi, I am Robert, new to this forum, genuin Jaguar S-type fanatic and DIY-er.

I was always especially fond of the quiet stationary of the V6.
Unfortunately it has started to vibrate, once /twice a minute...
I can see the belt tensioner flip when it happens <<<
Stationary or driving the shake occurs.

Had the gearbox revised last year, so that shouldn't be it.

Any ideas what it might be folks???

S-type 3.0 V6 CCX 2001 178.000 km emerald green

She drives like a breeze, but the shakes go through the whole vehicle,
almost like she's got a fever :-)
I removed the belt and checked all the pulleys,
powersteer-Airco-generator-idles where solid, only waterpump had some slack.
I suspect it may be the chain tensioners inside the engine ??

Welcome to the forum GreenMonster, when you get a chance stop by our new members area ==>> https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/

Funny you should have this issue, I drove my 2001 V6 S-Type today and it was also shaking, I didn't remember it being like this...

To the point where you can see the rear view mirror is bouncing...

So i'd be keen to understand what's happening with yours, as it might also be my issue....

Well... one possibility would be an intermittent air leak causing the engine to rev strangely. The shaking & belt behaviour would be outcomes.

There's at least one very common hose that perishes and causes such a leak on the 1999-2002 3.0 cars. (Lots of threads about it & fix.)

Has it been fixed?

You might try watching LTFTs & STFTs as it occurs to see what's going on if you think it's not the hose(s).

Plugs are due every 70K miles.

Coils fail with heat & time so are suspects.

Thats probably the case some sort of air leak. Last time I had a case of the shakes was when I didn't button down the intake manifold fully when replacing some coils. Had to take off the cover and carefully put it back on again.

Thank you SJGH,

Air Leak is probably it, I did change the sparkplugs myself,
(major S-type heart surgery if you ask me)
and did not replace the intake manifold gaskets.
They're on the way from the US as we speak ($12!! 72pounds in the UK)
So I ll let you know after installing them...

Greetz Robert.
