Smile S type 3.0L V6 common faults

Hi everyone,

I just picked up a 1999 S type 3.0 V6 auto on the weekend, for fairly cheap from a friends parents.
Its one owner & done 250,000 kms and i would like to make it reliable, and do some preventive maintenance.
I had a quick search for common faults but couldn't really find a thread that shows a list!?

I would greatly appreciate some info and \ or advise on what to replace so i don't get stranded anywhere or while im replacing a few parts i can get in there as well and replace\ inspect common issues.

I will be doing the following shortly:
-Automatic transmission filter replaced and fluid flushed ( shifts a little bit hard time to time, still has factory fluid i believe )
-Looking for possible air leak??? as car really doesn't slow down when not depressing accelerator
-Rocker cover gasket leaking ( drivers side )
-Drive belt and checking pulleys
-Upper coolant hose leaking from plastic nipple going to reservoir
-Oil & filter change, spark plugs, inlet manifold & MAF meter & throttle clean, injectors ultra sonic cleaned
-adjust handbrake cable

I also have noticed if i park in a incline it gets stuck in park if i dont pull the hand brake up before putting in park ???
hissing sound from foot well on rare occasion ( maybe booster ??? )

If anyone has some recommendation on parts to check and or replace would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Craig

Craig,

Here you go, specifically the parking instructions in post #3:

This is a common problem on the early models, and easily avoided if you set the parking brake before shifting into park.

Is the Check Engine light illuminated? If so, what are the codes? Possibly P0171 and/or P0174?

Here's a good primer on troubleshooting possible air leaks:
