Default S type diesel in USA?

I'm looking for a S type diesel any year 2004 to 2008. I can't seem to find any. I'm in the Northeast of US. I've found an abundance on UK sites. I thought they were sold here as well from what I've read.

-Are there any diesel S types in the US?
-If there were have they all died?

Thanks!

Not sold in USA - be glad. That means none of the special faults they have can bite you.

Diesel has become a curse word around here, thanks to Volkswagen (recently) and Oldsmobile in the 80's.

Diesel prices flip flop compared to gasoline, and by wild swings.

I'm still tempted to get one, but the 40 imperial mpg (~33US) made it a lot more tantalizing

I still find it hard to believe that a 2 ton vehicle could claim that kind of mileage - and upwards of 10 years old?

Only if you do the "right kind" of driving. So, the right roads, the right speeds etc. And who does? Well, only a few do of course but those are the ones who shout the loudest on car forums.

Have a look at the people who've lost engines, turbos, gearboxes, etc and indeed those who've got rid or had to junk the whole car. Jag were learning with the diesel S-Type...

S-types with the 4.2L NA petrol engine get 30 MPG (US gallons) under the right conditions. Converting to a more complicated diesel engine that uses more expensive fuel just to get 3 more mpg doesn't make sense.

The ~33mpg spec is from the original specs. obviously 10 years down the line it may be running much worse, but the same goes for petrols. A fanatic probably could have increased the efficiency some.

I can get 35 from my STR.

Or I can get 10.

Depends how I drive and the kinds of roads.

One thing our motoring organisations are VERY clear about: makers' mpg figures for diesels are far more exaggerated than for petrols. (And not just VW.)

(Turns out NOx, PM etc figures are also much worse for diesels, again not just VW.)

I've achieved an honest 29 mpg on a trip from San Francisco to San Diego in my 2003 S-type 4.2 NA and I was not going slow. Now that I have the 2005 R I rarely check mileage as it doesn't ever get too high the way I drive it.

For some reason, I hear of diesel success stories with either compact vehicles, or with heavy duty pickup trucks. Seldom about reliable midsize cars, possibly with exception like Mercedes.

Diesel and Jaguars mix like oil and water.
