Unhappy s type gear box problem

Hi guys.... i currently own a s type 53 plate automatic jag and im having a problem with the gear box...... i went out to my car yesterday morning started as normal put the car into reverse to get off the driveway then put the car into drive an because i live on a hill the car just started to roll but didnt have any power when i accellerated after after a few seconds the car cut out an wouldnt start again .... the gear box thinks its in reverse and the reverse lights are on but the gear lever is stuck solid in park .... could any one explain whats happened an how i can fix it any help would be most appreciated .... thanks for reading

Have a Search for each of:
transmission bolt
shifter
linkage
stuck in park

oh sorry.... ill do that asap.... the engine is a 2.5l V6

Have a look on the driveway for the bolts if they have dropped out.

just been reading a few posts on this problem apparently it should be to do with 2 bolts on the transmition selector cable abrutment bracket fitting coming loose or falling out so im gunna go check those ..... thanks
