Default S-type/Lincon LS

Does anyone know how many parts are interchangable between these two since they're pretty much the same car? I've see a few that are the same part but the Jag has a higher price tag on it and a different part number but will still function the same.

These comments apply to the '00-'02 models. The parts I know for sure interchange as I have used more than a few are the window regulators both front and rear and the fuel pump. Other than those I haven't found the need to try anything else but I'm sure there are other parts that will interchange.

Without looking at a parts cross-reference list I would guess that the 3.0 V6 engine parts, non-ZF transmission and rear end parts would interchange. I would consult with a Jaguar Certified Tech before actually installing any parts though.

My original MSRP window sticker says that from a parts origin standpoint, my 2005 S-Type 3.0 is 45% American/Canadian, 30% British, and 15% German. I expected lower North American percentages and higher UK percentages, but not so according to the sticker....

The 3.0 block is cast here in America, Ohio if I'm not mistaken. There are also a bunch of electrics, brakes, and other drive components that were also sourced in North America as part of parent Ford's involvement with Jag. Those components drive the content % up.

The 3.0 and 4.0 engines are from OHIO. While the ZF trannies are made in France. The same tranny found in the 3 and 5 series BMWs and the E-Class Benz. As for the body and electric wiring, Coventry, England. Some electrical parts are Germany. Such as rear obstacle detection.

My understanding is that the ZF transmission originates in Germany, not France?

I'd take it to another mechanic. I did the replacement myself and it worked fine. Unless, you didn't get the correct part. I ordered mine new at it was approximately 80.

I suggest you both post the part numbers you bought to see if they match - and also to help others in the future. Anyone else who's done this, post what you bought

If your looking for suspension parts / brake parts ( None R ) go to your local ford dealer.. Most Jag dealers get the brakes form Ford and then Jack up the price anyways.

Just keep in mind Ford has 3 different shock setups for the LS depending on year and motor configurations.

Also if you have a V8 ( NA )you can look for Thunderbird parts aswell. I have used a Thunderbird K&N Fipk kit on my V8 and it was a great mod.

he said something abt connectors not matching up?
Sounds like your mechanic is trying to tell you something either find a guy who doesn't mind you buying the parts or do it youtself.

Based on the problem with the connect, most of us doing our own work would have figured out a work around but if a mechanic takes a chance and if it doesn't work the owner gets pissed at him.If you are paying a guy to do the work, spend the extra dollars for the OEM part, look at the time you have into this trying to save a couple of bucks as will as the time that you put yourself and mechanic through.
Good luck.
