SWEET!!! I have contacted the seller hoping my 1300+ positive feedback rating will convince him to drop ship directly to DTS on our behalf!

Once I hear back from them on the shipping issue (stupid PayPal verified address crap) I will place the order and we will have a diff on the way to the "D" for conversion!!

Looks like we are on our way folks!! Stay tuned for an update on the Differential Purchase but I will take care of sourcing and getting it to DTS!

We will need to regroup and pass the hat to collect the parts and labor costs for DTS! I am still in for $50 ontop of sourcing the differential if it will get us moving forward!!

Will need to be negotiated with DTS of course, we are not talking about one diff here, if it works and the price is right they will be looking at dozens of conversions.

Seth, you can talk to them about this? Group buy, this is the prototype, etc...

I am ready to finalize the purchase and get it in the hands of UPS, but I need to know where to ship and to who's attention it should go to!

bfsgross, where is this carrier going and to whom?

EXCITING DAY FOR US!!!

Ditto. And let it be known that it was the "Unofficial jaguarforum" S-Type members who brought the LSD to the non LSD Jags. LOL!

cbharley, no need to pass the hat. Eric (DTS) said he'll mock up a differential using their resources. Let's allow them to mess around with our differential at their cost. This'll minimize our out of pocket $$$ for a venture that they'll likely profit handsomely; we provided the carrier at no cost to them, buy back the carrier minus the cost of the carrier, thus helping expose them to the Jaguar market. Eric said they're (DTS) cool with this...a top end marque brought to their business's doorstep. What more could a business ask for?

Sorry for all the spam tonight guys, just a little excited about a true LSD and the fact that as bfsgross said, this unofficial jaguarforum group made it happen!

Love pioneering!!

Here are a few shots of the diff we will be owning as of 9:00PST tomorrow morning!

Cheers!

cbharley, way to go! We're all excited to add a LSD to our growing list of S-Type mods and making history in the Jag owners world. Knowing a Quaiffe LSD carrier can be installed in an S-Type carrier, DTS is confident they can make an 8.8" Traction-Lok LSD work as well.

harumph! no love for x308's

@bfsgross

The logic for TRAC might be no wheelspin == no trac engagement. So once the LSD locks or limits wheelspin, TRAC has no reason to engage. Of course, that ignores the fact that it might sense that although there is no difference in rotation between the two rear wheels, they are spinning *way* faster than the fronts.

cbharley, I PM you that Warren, Michigan is Eric's (DTS) location. Please check the beginning of this thread for the link to the Lincoln LS LSD thread. I believe it mentions Warren. Regardless, DTS will forward it to Eric's location.

Eric called me from the Warren location. I recognize the phone number. Send the diff. to Warren, Michigan.

Uh but that doesn't make me very confident...

The Quaife QDF3W has a very different case design to a 8.8" Trac-Lok

You can see this from Quaife's own drawings;

QDF3W http://www.quaife.co.uk/sites/defaul...ings/QDF3W.PDF (Jag XKR)
QDF29Z http://www.quaife.co.uk/sites/defaul...ngs/QDF29Z.pdf (Mustang 8.8")

Hope DTS can fit something with clutches in there!

Of course you can turn that off but I wouldn't want to do that in most street driving situations.

I guess we'll have wait and see how it does.
Wished I had the answer here, the effect may also be very short, as when the wheel stops slipping, the dsc will stop breaking, and the lsd will equalize the torque again.

In short I don't think you can go wrong ditching the open diff, but as said, if there are options now, then now is the time to evaluate them.

Maybe Tijoe can ask Torsen how their diff works with our DSC system (so where the system will brake a wheel, what the effect is of the torque distribution).

That is what I was guessing too...
that we could just ignore TC with the LSD mod.

Braking shouldn't engage at all, but it might limit throttle position. I guess we need a road test for that since we don't have design parameters for the TC logic.

I would be interested in a version for the S-Type 3.0V6/5R55N that I have. It is Mfd Date: 04/99. What do I look for in a diff to have converted?

Way to go guys!!!

I shot an email off to a friend of mine who is a drive train engineer for McLaren (street cars) to see if he has any thoughts about this. If he doesn't know directly he usually posits the question at lunch with his fellow engineers. Let's hope he comes up with something useful.

I would think it should be a lot better too but I've been fooled by issues like this before on my track care and it was an expensive mistake. So I never assume on the engineering of systems interaction like we have here.

Got a reply already and I'm not sure it's any more worthwhile about the specific question I had than what we've already been discussing but he raises a few other points as well so here it is:

"Hi Bob,
Merry xmas to you to, so far it's been pretty good thanks.
Turbos going ok: I picked them up just before xmas after they had the shafts straightened. They've balanced ok upto 220,000 rpm! The company that did then think they're going to be fine. This afternoon I'm doing the final assy to the engine so I'll post some pictures.

Tricky question about the jag diff. My guess is that it may well depend on the type of diff and the more locking ratio you've got the more likely it is that the dsc system will get confused. Having said that I think you'll be OK.

The dsc system certainly won't know it's there during normal driving so you'll be fine there, the question is will it still function ok when you need it.

As you seem to want the diff to help launching the car and assuming you'll use a plate type diff you'll probably only need a diff with light preload and low locking ratio in coast, this way you'll benefit from the diff when hard on throttle, but the light preload and low coast locking will prevent you introducing too much understeer.

I suspect this combination would work well with the dsc because as soon as the dsc steps in it would normally reduce the engine torque and apply brakes to one corner and the diff will be least intrusive in these conditions.

One things for sure and that is the the dsc won't know it's there until you slide so 99% or the time you'll be fine and you'll benefit from the car being more driftable if that's what you want!

Hope that helps a bit"
