Not a low compression or low perf. engine at all.

Vortec 6000 6.0L V-8 LQ4 Tech Article by BillaVista - Pirate4x4x.com

A plug either causes the fuel/air mixture to fire or it doesn't. There's no 'halfways'. If the vehicles had been suffering misfires, a code would have set and the infamous check engine light illuminated. Since no codes were set, no misfires occurred- so emissions would not have been negatively affected. The owner comes from a state in the US that has mandatory smog testing and it is known that no repairs were ever required. I simply do not have the actual readouts from the tests.

Nice try but not correct.

You can have badly burned air/fuel, poor emissions, misfires, destroyed cats (often caused by the foregoing) and yet have no codes.

Even if misfires occur they have to cross quite a high threshold on a cylinder to be flagged.

(And of course software bugs that turn out not to do the detection when they should - as an example, jag got fined for this if you look.)

Actually... Power to weight (the Vortec 6.0 is a pretty bad @ss engine) means that it hardly is working to move that truck around even with a load... Now if you said it was the 4.3 Vortec that would be a different story all together.

I have the vortec 6.0 in my Escalade. You're right it barely works under normal conditions, and it even gives the sled decent acceleration. Overall its a great motor... Under load (aka me driving) - it consumes fuel at an alarming rate though... But then again so do the S430 and XJR... Oh well you have to play to pay I guess....

Take care,

George

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

"On December 18, 2000, EPA entered into a settlement agreement with Jaguar Cars (Jaguar), resolving allegations that the lack of continuous misfire monitoring on certain model year 1995, 1996 and 1997 vehicles creates material differences between the vehicles as built and the ones described in Jaguar’s emission certification applications, and that, in consequence, the vehicles as built were not covered by a certificate of conformity and Jaguar’s subsequent sale of these vehicles was in violation of section 203(a)(1) of the Act. Jaguar denies these allegations but is willing to resolve the matter amicably, and has already implemented or initiated many of the actions required by this Administrative Settlement Agreement."

OECA Cases and Settlements - Archive | Compliance and Enforcement | US EPA

Depends whether either or both of you were discussing Jaguar in general or S-Type in specific as to whether you find agreement on this bit of it....

Interestingly, found this one while searching:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ll-j004-10665/

which is more recent but I guess not associated with misfires but the fuel evap canister? In any case...seems they occasionally feel the "brush" of the heavy hand of oppressive gov't.......sigh.....
