My amount out of pocket is $600.00 + tax. I confirmed the drive shaft price($1200.00)and install amount with another dealer and it was very close.
I hope they are correct! Thanks for all the help/suggestions!
Hold on! They may mean the output shaft of the tranny. There's TSB JTB00056 "Automatic Transmission Weeps Oil".

Officially for VIN N14720-N65270, 2005-2007 model years.

It's a leak past the "transmission output shaft seal"

In case you're under warranty...... fix should be free.

BTW, clear(ish) fluid HAS to be from the tranny. At least, I can't see the diff fluid being clear. (Anyone sure?)

Never heard of it either. I asked the service advisor if I could speak to the mechanic and he told me to wait until I picked up the car and "promised" me I would have no further problems. I still dont understand how I could have downshifting issues and fluid under the tranny and it NOT be the tranny. I guess I'll get more info today but I have a feeling the real problem is not solved.
I may be stretching it, but I wonder if the Sales Manager who discounted the repair didnt want to help pay for a new transmission so they did a temporary fix on the tranny, and found something else to fix as a way to push it off for the time being ,since I have no warranty. Dont know why they insist it's not a tranny issue.

There's only one link - to the acronyms file. It doesn't take you to any other site. So... which link do you mean? Sounds like you have an infection of some sort.

"in it" - you're having a laugh!!

The leak, if it occurs, is described above and the TSB is there for a reason.

Just got the car back. The service rep spoke to the master tech and assured me he could not find any leak on the tranny. "Since the fluid was clear in color, it was transmission fluid and was possibly from the flange at the output shaft" is what I was told.
The note from the tech says TEST DROVE. HEARD TAIL SHAFT BANG ON DOWN SHIFT. REMOVE AND REPLACE TAIL SHAFT AND INSTALL LOCK TIGHT TO SPLINES TO REMOVE PLAY. INSTALL ALL SOFTWARE AND RESET ADAPTIONS. $499.00

I went to consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com and found info on the 2005 S-Type
Automatic transmission: A clunking or knocking noise may be heard from the transmission when downshifting and is fixed by putting thread locking compound on the transmission output spines. (2003-05)

Drove back from dealer one hour ago and no leaks under the car so far but I will keep and eye out for any. Seems to shift quicker though.

That fits with the TSB I listed, i.e. known (to Jaguar) problem with known (to Jaguar, detailed in the TSB) fix.

New to me.

I hope it's fixed.

Anyone heard of that before?

It doesn't sound right to me, the splines are there to allow the shaft to change length slightly due to the angle and suspension movement, loctite would stop that.
If it doesn't lock the spline but just fills the wear gaps I"d expect it won't last long.
Just my thoughts though.

The note about the O ring is interesting, it seems to suggest the transmission testers were not the sharpest knives in the box.
