Default S-type will not respond to FOB in a cold morning

Hi
It was about 7c morning. The car was fine yesterday. When I used the FOB to unlock the car, there was no response. The FOB battery is new but to make sure, I warmed it up with a heater. Tried again and still no response. I opened the driver door with the key and inserted the key into the ignition. No response, the seat did not move nor did the steering wheel. It has a fairly new battery. Any ideas about what is happening? Thanks

Did the engine start as normal? You kinda left us hanging...

So sorry about that. There was no power at all. Engine did not turn. Looks like a completely flat battery. I am waiting for RACV to come and jump start it. But I do not have a keyhole in the boot and pressing the boot button did not open it (no power). Local Jag specialist said he did it once from under the engine. As I said, it has a fairly new battery so I did not consider a flat one this morning. Will update what happens.

Your trunk lid should have a keyhole. Crouch down and look at the overhang above the license plate. On early models, it’s a few inches right of center.

If still no joy, details here of how to supply power:

It's not the fob, or at least you can't tell - due to the main car battery being flat.

Your trunk (boot) has a key hole

If you've not used it regularly the lock may well be seized, sadly.

Default S-type will not respond to FOB in a cold morning (resolved a little)

First up, thank you to everyone who helped me diagnose the issue. Thank you to those who provided links to the electrical system that convinced me to get a certificate as an electrician. It was NOT the FOB, as JagV8 said. It was the dead battery. Thank you to kr98664 for the boot key location (I found it and it works). The morning of the previous day, I saw an amber light on the dash and I think that was the battery charge indicator, at that time, the brakes were not working properly. Soon as the light disappeared, the brakes were normal.
Got the local RACV jump start the car and all is well. Now, I just have to get my electrical certificate and figure out the quiescent current (thank you JagV8)
