Seafoam?
In it's favour, Seafoam does an excellent job at doing what it was originally designed for, possibly the best product on the market. The only thing that's changed is that Jaguars do not have 1950s vintage two stroke outboard motors as power plants.
Well, not mine at least.
Well, not mine at least.
I've always used it in all my others cars and it's been with great results but I didn't know how it would react with 4.0since jag engines have sensors everywhere I didn't want to create a problem I don't need
Products like Seafoam get marketed under several general topics, one of which is 'keeps bad things from happening'. If one were to always use it and nothing bad happens, it's easy to deduce that the product must work. I keep a bag of genuine petrified voodoo chicken bones out in the garage and wave them at all the toys at least once a month. Since almost nothing bad has ever happened, the bones must have magic powers and I have the evidence to prove it. For the few things that did happen, the guy I got them from said I didn't use enugh bones and should buy some more from him.
These products also get marketed by using vague promises of curing various difficult or impossible to verify 'bad things' which may or may not be innocuous functions of perfectly normal engine operation.
Cleans engine! Where? How? Are you sure it was 'dirty'? What harm did this dirt do? What difference would it make if the 'dirt' was left alone.
I guess the biggest laugh is people noticing clouds of smoke coming out the tail pipe and assuming that this is all 'bad stuff' that the product is removing from the engine. Seafoam is very light motor oil mixed with naptha and iso-propol alcohol. That's it, no miracles in a can.
As previously stated it was developed in the 50s to help clean gummed up 2 stroke outboard motor carbs and sticky rings.
None of these problems exist on any modern engine. If your engine honestly does run better after using one of these produces, there is a serious depp rooted problem with it that will soon return.
We won't mention the placebo effect..........
