Id like for one of you STR or just Stype owners to take a picture of your rear differential to compare to the one on my LS, might have an answer to your LSD issues. I saw something about a Quaffe(spelling?) LSD, only glanced at what was written and saw the word exspensive, one of my friends has a brand new LSD with 3.58's that he did for maybe $500 by himself. Hope I can help you guys out. Ill keep checking in.

In case it helps, from a print-out of my 2004 STR: differential C2910030956A
(looks like a Jag part no)

I don't have an easy way to get good pics but it may help others if you can say what angle(s) you want pics taken from.

I have a 2003 Lincoln LS and a 2005 STR. The rear ends look identical but I am not sure?? Here is some pictures of both units. See what you think?? I have added a picture of an XK LSD which I know will NOT work.

That is part 1 of 2 problems maybe solved......

The second would be getting the speedo/odometer/transmission/ECU to work like it should

The speedometer is not a problem with either the Jaguar S Type or the Lincoln LS. Both cars use the ABS system for speed and changing the rear end ratio does NOT change how many revolutions the tires make for any given speed. Now when you change the OD of the tires then it throws your speedo off. Also keep the tire OD's the same front and rear. On the LS forum a guy had mucho problems when he violated this!!

Yes I posted the same pictures as Riski. One guy is/was parting a 2003 STR on EBay and I got a bunch of pictures from the ads. I think the 2003 STR rear end is the same but I have some information that there "might" have been some changes when the S Type was updated again in 2005??

So there is no calibration needed then as the ABS sensor will adjust for it?

I would think there has to be when I changed the rear end gear on my Mustangs and bike I needed a speedohealer, and speedo gear....

but if it is not needed Ill get a 3.58 carrier out of a Lincoln LS or maybe a 3.31.....

This guy is in Villa Park....I might have to go by his shop and talk to him and get more info on this and maybe we can see if it will work for our Jags.....

You can't change rearend ratio just like that, there is a check in the TCM. Here is more to read:

As far as I know, any time someone upgraded to the 3.58's from 3.07's or whatever else they just unhooked the battery, let the ECM reset, hooked it back up and everything was fine. The strategy system our cars run on(LS's not sure about the Jags) are very adaptive, they learn your driving styles ect and can change how the car shifts and everything.

Anywho, the parts list for a bolt in LSD swap for us are to follow if anyone wants to just jump in and try it, Ill head out to the storage unit tomorrow morning and check my rear diff out.

2000-2002 Lincoln LS carrier
2000-2002 Lincoln LS 3.58's
2000-2002 Lincoln LS half shafts/axles
Any Ford 8.8 Posi/LSD device with 28 spline inputs
The 8.8 IRS shim/rebuild kits work for the Ford 8.0 as well.

If the car checks its speed using the rpm from the ABS sensors, messing with the diff will indeed throw codes, won't it? Does any LS even use the same PCM as the STR?
And the same calibration software? (this one will be NO)

NO. The rear end ratio has nothing to do with indicated speed. Think about how it is measured. The tires will turn the same number of revolutions regardless of what the rear end ratio is. Now what WILL change is the engine RPM .vs. speed.

Again the car (Jaguar) might set a code but the speed will be correct. This is because the computer measures the engine rpm and the transmission output shaft rpm to detect transmission slippage or incorrect transmission gear selection. The LS also monitors this but does NOT set any error code with a rear end ratio change. Great info on the 6 cylinder rear end change because nobody has ever changed the STR yet so we don't really know! I wonder if the STR uses the same rear end as the 6 cylinder cars? I would think no BUT not sure?

Remember with the LS if the rear end ratio is changed and you have not compensated for this by using a programmer (SCT) then no error codes will be thrown BUT your speedometer will be incorrect.

I didn't mean indicated speed. I meant that for a certain pulse rate (rpm) from the rear sensors then in a known gear and with known diff ratio the engine rpm should agree (allowing for the ratios). Change the diff ratio and it won't, will it? If you get no codes doesn't it mean that these aren't cross-checked?

What spline count are the half shafts on the Jag?

I have the LSD from ford racing in my Mark VIII its an 8.8 read end (IRS) with a 28 spline count.

Does this information help anyone?
