Sickly S Type post-running out of fuel
Hello everyone,
Have a running issue with my 2008 3.0 S Type, US spec car., about 119k on it. Situation is this; last week my idiot brother in law decided he was going to help me out by taking it to get gas. I KNEW it was on fumes, and didnt have time to fuel it before I left for work, so took one of my other cars. Even took the key with me, as I told him " dont worry about it, Ill deal with it myself" because I dont let ANYONE drive it. Yet he knew where I kept the spare key, so he helps himself anyway. Got 3 blocks away and it ran out of gas. I even told him it probably needs fuel put in at the house with a tank first. I know, the idiot isnt part of the deal here, but...its a factor. Prior to all of this, I had noticed that power cut out under HARD acceleration, always fine with normal driving. But mash the throttle and it would fall on its face, let off and power resumed as normal. No check engine lights, idles fine, all normal drive conditions. I suspected a bad fuel filter and intended to deal with that prior to this, just didnt get it done since its winter and its not been driven much. SO, put 3 gallons in the tank, and still no start. Turns over strong, would try to fire off and run, but choked up and died in seconds. Replaced the filter, attempted to start, and only cranked, no ignition fire up at all. Like no spark. I checked the fuel pump fuses and relay, all good. Reset inertia switch, and finally it fires up. Only to last a few seconds and then rpms drop to a stall. Restarts each time, good throttle response, then the downward rpm spiral again within 5 to 10 seconds. I kill the key rather than let it stall out completely.Removed ground on battery in hopes of resetting, same conditions. I can hear the fuel pump energize a few seconds when key is switched on.Check engine lite is on of course. Also, Ive been having park brake issues with what is no doubt a low battery, as it has been tested and is weak. Reset that EPB several times, and while its no longer stuck on, the "CANNOT APPLY PARK BRAKE fault is on. New battery is obviously coming. But would a bad fuel pump go out completely with zero fuel, or would it give a tiny bit of flow for a brief start, then lose pressure that fast leading to a stall ? Could this be a low voltage issue as well ? Taking it to the Dealer is not an option, as its a former employer and we did not part ways on good terms...Any ideas ? Or do I bite the bullet and get a new fuel pump and hope thats it....

Sounds like running empty took what was left of the pump out... sounds like it was on it's last legs.
If when ignition on you get at least 10.5V at the fuel pump harness best invest in a replacement pump.
Also, never run these cars with less than a half a tank of gas.
