Default 2003 S-Type issues with trans

Hey everyone,
I have a 2003 2-type 3.0 and it seems to be having some transmission issues. The symptoms are as follows. It give a clunk when you put the car in to drive or reverse. It also won't shift out of 1st gear. There are a few error codes from ABS and Gearbox fault. Also on the computer the codes are p0701 and p0731

Any advice?

Welcome to the forum Paulantent.
Please post an intro in the new members section when you can.

First step is to make sure the battery is fully charged, then I'd try and trace the ABS faults first they may be upsetting the tranny.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I also needed to mention that I have a wheel bearing in the rear that has needed to be replaced. It has caused some excessive vibration on the car.

+1 on that. More details on your P0701 and P0731 codes here:

Note how P0701 is related to a DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) fault. The manual says to look for related DSC fault codes. Keep in mind most scanners can't read Jaguar-specific codes, just the generic emissions codes that all newer cars use. Could be you've got a DSC fault due to the rear wheel bearing issue, but your scanner can't tell you.

Two options:

1) Replace that suspect wheel bearing and see if P0701 clears itself.

2) Take the car to a Jaguar specialist shop (dealer or independent) that has a scanner that can read all the codes, not just the generic ones.

Your call, but since you know you have to replace that wheel bearing assembly, I'd fix the known problem first. You've got to replace it anyway, so it's not wasted money if no help with the other stuff.

Norri, thank you for the reply and help! I will check the battery to make sure it is fully charged. May I ask how the ABS might affect the trans?

Default TCM replacement

Do you think a TCM module might be the issue?

The ABS sensor provides information to the transmission if that's info is not good the trans will get confused, the wheel bearing may be causing the ABS fault.
Do the easy stuff first.

Well? The suspense is killing me. Tell your employee that you will dock his pay until he spills the beans.
