Guys,

I've been getting some small, 1/2 inch drops of oil under the car. Can't quite identify the source, but they are falling from the rear of the plastic belly protector. Now this oil is black and viscous.

The engine oil is new and clean. There has been no drop in the dipstick level. Obvious call, the gearbox... I had no idea when the fluid had last been changed. After struggling to get the car on stands, level and stable, I cracked the filler nut but got a flow of clean, golden fluid. Smells good, looks like it is very new...

My quandary, where is this old, tarnished oil coming from?????

Is it clean trams fluid picking up crud from the belly pan and dripping dirty. I was contemplating a full transmission service but the condition of the fluid suggests this may be wasted money.

Any ideas??????

its recommend you change the gearbox oil every 60k miles if you want to avoid issues.
