What does the manual call for as far as spark plugs?

Do yourself a favor. Read my post in your other thread and follow the link in it. Secondly, get yourself the valve cover and boss seals and most likely the plenum and lower intake seals as well! Replace all those while you have the plenum off to replace spark plugs. You will thank me later!

I'm wondering what you mean by better and why you'd want better? The OE ones don't appear to have any problems...

Those NGK Iridium's will not work.
OEM type for the '03-'08 S-Type 3.0 in NGK are double platinum #4968 to match MotorCraft platinum #SP479 OEM originally installed.
NGK's web site and parts stores like Napa, O'reilley's, etc.....show only platinum as OEM for that engine with that NGK plug number. No Iridium listed in NGK.
If you want to install Iridium's, there are AutoLite #XP103, Bosch #9606 or Champion #9808 in Iridium.
I chose AutoLite XP103 Iridium for my '05 S-Type 3.0L because I wanted Iridium, and the right side plugs has to have the upper intake removed to get to those three, plus new gaskets in the plenum. Not looking forward to do that job again for some time. So, I got the longer lasting Iridium's.
Besides, there was an AutoLite rebate on their Iridium's that gave me $3 on each plug. That has $18 coming my way.
Gap is preset at .050", but I found variations, so check the gaps on all six.

If you are stateside any big box auto parts store will carry the correct FelPro aftermarket gaskets/seals. I am sorry its been a long time since I have even thought about these.
