DougB, all our cars are always plugged in while they are home (all parking stalls have outlets) and when it gets really cold they're plugged in when they can be. Unfortunately where my wife works there is nowhere to plug in. Odd when you think about it since she works for our biggest auto group! That being said, this Jag once sat out for a week without being plugged in or started at -40C, and guess what, started up right away (didn't like it much but it went).

The car is in a toasty garage as I write and is thawing out nicely. There is still some more melting to go, so the plan is leave it until tomorrow and then give it a go! I have no reason to believe this is anything more than a freeze up and all should go well!

Thanks for all the well wishes. Unless you've been here and experienced this type of weather, I don't think you can really appreciate how hard it is on these poor cars, of any make. That being said, I hope many of you never have to experience it. Sometimes I wonder why I still live here! lol

It's alive!!!
After two days in a nice warm garage she has come back to life with nothing broken. Left at least a gallon or so of water on the floor from all the ice that was locking things up. So all is well.
However, all the draining and charging of the battery seems to have killed whatever life it had left. I had to jump it to get it going so I'm getting a new one tomorrow.
Lesson learned - starters can and will freeze if you get enough snow in there and it's cold enough, but a thaw will solve it.

Glad it's repaired but that is way too cold if it will freeze the starter!

Glad to hear all that was needed was a good thawing-out process. Stay warm....

Well, been a few days now and still running like new. On a side note, this issue seems to have fixed another one as well. I have the ACM in the car since my wife likes to use her ipod. Last May it decided that it didn't want to work anymore, and of course during our trip out to Banff when you need something to listen too! Anyway, guess what, after I got the car going again the other day the ACM has decided to work again. I have come to accept that no matter how well I know this car, I will never understand it.

The ACM has a reset that is hard to see. It's on the side and takes a tooth pick or some kind of needle to press it.

Once in a while mine needs reset but it reboots the ACM and it comes back fine.

Here is a picture so you can find the reset a bit better. It's not easy to see if you don't know it there! This is a Range Rover but same ACM.

Thanks for the pics and tips, however, I do know about the reset (and yes the switch was in the right position). When it was working, much like mentioned above, it did need to be reset on occasion. No, it had completely stopped working and no amount of resets fixed it. I was already shopping for a new one, but now that they are like triple the price they used to be, I just kept putting it off. Guess something magical took place in Jag world and all is well again!
