Default stereo upgrade

Hi my climate control display seems to have packed up lights up aircon works just no display when I replace it was thinking replacing the ageing radio cassett option my str came with I have seen some double din stereos on ebay for the stype models that dont have satalite navigation has any one upgraded how easy is it I dont think my car has premium system as I have not seen an amp in the compartment where the cd changer is I presume my present system is 4x50w but not sure any opinions?

Try tapping the climate control screen to restore it.

If your car isn't the satnav equipped one upgrading the stereo to a double din one is easy. You need about 50 quids worth of cable and facia adaptors. Any competant ICE installer can do it in about an hour. That isn't going to do anything about your air con display though.
If you DO have the sat nav it's another ball game entirely.

yes the aircon display is a seprate issue it is now working again I have seen some double din ones on ebay that come complete with fitting kit for jaguar s type may consider one of those may car is non satnav

Remember, those are for head units WITHOUT Premium Sound (in 1st Generation S-Types).

When I replaced my 2002 car with another lower mileage but otherwise identical one recently I made sure that I got a non sat nav one just so that I could replace the stereo in order to get one with bluetooth. Halfords made it nice and easy (and pretty cheap too)

I dont think I have premium sound as there is no amp sitting next to the cd changer

It sounds like you don't. Another way of telling is to look behind the rear seat headrests. If you have speakers there then it's the premium system.

non premium no shelf peakers so a double din unit would be ok although one thing bothers me is theft these double din units are look very nice although my car is alarmed I could still see some one breaking in and trying to steal it steal it was searching for a good quality one with a removable face plate
