STR boys, I am in!
Here is the actual text from E-Bay regarding bidding and reserve prices:
Before you bid, carefully review the listing. If everything is acceptable, follow these steps:
1. Click the Place Bid button.
2. Enter your maximum bid for the item. This is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller.
3. Click the Continue button.
4. Review your bid, and click the Confirm Bid button.
eBay will place a bid just high enough to beat the reserve price (if the seller has set one) or make you the high bidder. This means that you might win an item for less than your maximum bid, but you can also be outbid if someone else enters a higher maximum bid than yours. If your maximum bid is beaten, you can place additional bids until the listing ends.
The system will continue to bid on your behalf up to your maximum bid. You'll get an email confirming each bid.
During the last hour of an auction, you can submit 1-click bids, which automatically raise your maximum bid just enough to beat the current high bidder.
When the auction ends, you'll get another email telling you whether you've won the item and what you can do next.
You should only bid on items that you're serious about buying because once you win or purchase an item through Buy It Now, you're obligated to complete the purchase and pay the seller. There are a few situations in which it's OK to retract a bid, such as if you accidentally entered the wrong bid amount. Click the Retract bid button and we'll help you with the process.
We encourage you to learn more about bidding before placing your first bid.
So, Rick's bid did not meet reserve or else the system would have pushed the bid up to reserve.

Without knowing anything else about your two cars I'll just observe that both of you own the oldest STRs on the planet not 06 models. When I was shopping I generally limited myself to cars under 30K miles and I really want an 05 but I did look at an 03 (35K miles) that sounded and looked real clean which was listed at $14K but he wouldn't engage me and ended up selling it for $12K or something.
The cheapest STR I can find for sale in this country is an 02 model, with 140K klms on it, for $40K. & that's one of only 2 STRs available for sale in Oz (on the net) right now. So my only chance of cheap entry into the STR club would be to go to the UK & buy one, drive it around Europe for a couple of years, & then send it to Oz as a private import.
I am planning a Euro holiday sometime this year. But I don't plan on staying there years, & I'd hate to pay European fuel prices to keep a STR on the road. So I guess I won't be getting a STR anytime soon.
I just can't bring myself to pay $40K for a 10 year old car.

I'm planning on doing that scatcat, sooner or later we'll be moving back to Oz, so 12-15 months before i'll be buying something in the UK. You only need to own a car for 12 months before it falls into the personal import category. It'll be shipped back in a container with the furniture.
Oh Rick..
I was going to bid on that car lol... I actually like the Coventry hornet wheels personally, but I decided to give in and find what I really wanted - aka an xjr. You know how long I've lusted after one of them lol.
Car seems decent - if you want I'll call him and see what he's willing to do dealer - dealer.
Oh and happy new year guys!
Take care,
George

I've been extremely busy with getting my own nj dealer license - working crazy hours at my day job and.. (Rick you already know this) getting engaged and planning a wedding!
So all that being said.. I haven't forgotten about you guys and I still try to pop in every now and then when I have a chance.. Aka a day off from work!
I actually have an xjr in the works.. But I'm not going to say anything until its a done deal...
You know I sat and thought about it and bang for the buck value there isn't much that can touch the jaguar r cars as far as what you can get for the $$..
Especially if you're willing to turn some wrenches yourself. The jaguar "reliability" myth still plagues these cars when they enter the secondary market..
Take care,
George
