Default Str hid

My 2006 STR's RH front HID changed color sometime ago, and became purple-ish.

I kept driving and did not worry.

Now the light started flashing and eventually shut itself off completely.

I have searched a bit but can't seem to find any thread describing if this could be the bulb or the ballast unit.

Can anybody advise?

Thanks

Take your bulb out of the other light and switch them. If the other bulb works its a bad bulb. If it doesn't work it a bad ballast.

Either one can be bought on Ebay reasonable.

Well thank you for the troubleshooting clue.

I had not thought of that.

Is there anything particular about removing and installing the HIDs or can they be treated just like any Halogen bulb?

just don't touch the bulb with your finngers, and if it is the bulb I suggest replacing both cos the colors won't match up at first.

Default Ever weird

Last night the HID came on again.

But as can be seen, the color is darker.

I wonder if it is the ballast then.

you can get replacement bulbs from here: ddmtuning.com also if your good with electricity, you can adapt over to aftermarket ballasts to save some $$$$$

You know you have to pull the bumper to change ballast and lights
there is not enough room to do either.

Pull the bumper?

Wow, no, I didn't know that.

Even just for the bulbs?

Yes there is not ebough room behind hid assemblies to get them out without pulling the covver. But that doesnt take long, definitly longer than halogens though which you can get out from the back

Are there on-line instructions on how to actually pull the bumper and put it back?

Doesnt take long at all. This is for a non R but they are bolted up the same(post is actually courteously provided by joycesjag). Now that you know where all the bolts are should take 10-15 min tops.

Thanks to all of you. I had looked it up and that same post came up.

I guess I'll try switching the bulbs and drive a bit to see if the right side bulb goes crazy again. That should determine.

Be back soon

Well having switched bulbs I can advise that the problem migrated to the left side, so this must definitely be a bulb.

Thanks to all.

Default NEWS on HID

Hi everyone

The HIDs I had purchased in ebay, real cheap (no brand), turned out to be harmful to the ballast units.

I ended up with a bad ballast needing replacement, and also had to purchase some known brand HIDs.

Dang after more than a year you report back? lolz... But hey you should have bought the ballast from ddmtuning. I changed out my fog lamps to HID using there kits. Hope it works for you now with the new ones.
