Default STR looses power when passing, restarts fine.

My 03 STR w/91k only did this occasionally in the past, but now it is 100% reproducible.

While highway cruising at any speed I decided to punch it, to pass for example, the car will cut off power.

The throttle will become unresponsive, the lcd dash readout will show "Engine Systems Fault", "Parkbrake Fault", "DSC Not Available" as well as illuminate the Traction Control Light, Amber LED, Orange LED and ABS light.

I than pull over and put the car into Neutral gear, this gives it a rough and high idle (1250 RPMS), after restarting all the lights are off again and the car drives fine, until I punch it again.

I pulled the following hex DTC's from the Instrument Cluster menu, in this order: e523, d900, e511, 9600, a882, e200, e197, 9318, e510, 9246 and e518 but nobody seems to know how to translate those to actual DTCs.

I have videos of this happening, will upload soon.

Thank You,

Tom.

You'd be wiser to use a proper tool to get the current codes as those could be very old. If you want to translate them I posted how in the posts about ETM (Engineering Test Mode). I wouldn't bother.

Thank You jagv8 for the clarification. These are by far the scariest codes I have seen in my life. All CAN / Communications related.

I'm of to check for corroded terminals in the trunk, loose connections...etc...

Put the car into engineering test mode, and monitor battery voltage.

Make it happen and see if the voltage drops when you stand on it.

Just a hunch I have.

Take care,

George

They could be ancient. Better to see what's now in the PCM, clear them, drive normally until the monitors complete (aka set) - shown by P1000 clearing and P1111 setting, then cause the fault until codes appear. Finally, use those codes to figure what's wrong.

Could be poor power/ground, failing battery/alternator, but why guess.......

Thank you for the replies and here is an update. The codes I showed in first post are not related to engine faults, only Instrument Cluster communication faults. So forget those, at least from my understanding.

The car has a new battery, ~6 months old Interstate and is driven regularly with short trips kept to the minimum. Instrument cluster voltage shows 13.9 with minimal fluctuation even with the "Engine Systems Fault" etc....

The following 6 ODB2 codes were in the system:
P0121, P1122, P1344, P1582, B0121, B0327.

I have cleared them and will check again in a few days.

Just a thought and probably way off but I have had the same problem, same codes, and dashboard warnings on a couple of occassions. The car even went into limp mode but was fine the following day. Usually when it was raining or snowing heavily. The dealer was unable to find or diagnose the problem. My little Jag. guy who works out of a hole in the wall suggested a bad ground and got it right on. I remove, clean and reinstall the ground every service (about every 6 months) also smear with dielectric grease, and it's been fine ever since. It's the ground behind the front fender liner at the rear of the passenger side fender well. Might be worth a look and an easy fix. Good luck.

My car did not have the ground problem. After getting the throttle body tps rebuilt by ATE the problem went away.

Thanks again for the help. I don't like it when people don't update threads with solutions, makes searches difficult. I just didn't suspect the throttle body since it was replaced around 2 years ago.
