All recent and future cars "should" (are mandated to) do that. Even badly-fitted caps should flag a code that's an I/M fail.

It's really lounder?

OK, so the idea is to insulate the intake tract from heat soak correct?

Any ideas on whether anything should also be done to the air filter box?

Something I've always wondered about is those plastic covers on the intercoolers. Do they serve any functional purpose? It doesn't seem like they do but I may be missing something.

The powdercoated one is behind schedule the PC'er had a death in the family so it wont be done for a while, but its getting textured black on the outside and smooth on the inside. it will look 100% OEM

Its not annoying loud but it is louder.

The plastic cover is mainly a vanity cover.

The Airbox should stay as stock as possible we couldnt have asked for a better design. fresh airis rammed into the box and only restricted by the filter.

Mafioso, is there more noise because the noise attentuation chambers (little chambers looking like large warts on air intake tube) are not present? I wonder if the reason there is more blower whine is because she's gulping more air?

We made the tube as straight as possible for best airflow. The lack of silencer chambers does create a hissing at idle and you can hear the blower in it's natural environment since those chambers are tuned to the frequency that cancels the whine.

Mind you I'm still running stock paper filter. Although we are looking at a company that's similar to k&n but outperforms in cfms and more important is a dry filter

Once the filter arrives it's dyno time although this one isn't powder coated it has produced some impressive data so far.

So far for the driving test (mind with v1 all tests were static aka stand still)

The 40% drop raised just a hair on the driving tests 30% drop on non powercoated.

Here is the most impressive figure. I drive to my parents once a week 50 mile round trip I average 19 mpg using average mpg trip computer reset in my driveway make the trip keep it on cruise at 70mpg. Yes there are alot hills and such so 19mpg is decent with a 1/2 tank of gas.

Today with a full tank made the same trip recreating same speed excatly the same driving habit and guess what...

25.8 mpg average. While I know it's not super accurate and gallons out/miles driven=mpg.

I started with the same parameters using the same scale (trip computer)

Wow! Increased mpg's too? And we can def. use increased mpg in our STR's and a must have in order to enhance and bring to harmony other mods. I'll need this before I dyno-tune. This is amazing and exciting; we're witnessing the soup to nuts development of a product germane to the STR.

Oh this is only the beginning, I'm trying to find a donor blower with the throttle body and intake primary ( the black part over the blower) so I see if we might benefit from porting and polishing. I have a machinist with a flow bench on stand by, to see if what porting can be done on the intake side and something similar steigmiegers port and regear. I really need to get a motor apart (head section) and compare the gasket openings to the metal.

I smell a full motor build (blue printed and balanced) in the the future.

I guess project rear-end is off to the back burner. <--- more on that later.

I imagine donor STR upper engine induction parts are not plentiful. Contact AVOS, not only is he perhaps the most knowledgeable on the STR engine, he may have upper induction parts hangin around. He has offered spare blowers to some here. He performed STR build(s) for customers too.

I would hope you'd perform the dyno tests with a stock filter yes?
Changing multiple items simultaneously muddles the results.

Yep, I'm sure it'll cost a buck for parts shipped from Brussels. I'd be willing to kick in shipping $ if others concur. It's fair to help with costs as we'd all benefit.

Yes we will be doing a set of pulls stock filter, then new filter, possibly KN filter if I can get my hands on one.

Regular auto parts store can have a K&N filter to you in a day or two. This is how I bought mine.

Mafioso thanks for your efforts, I'm keeping tabs of your progress. Just for clarification can you identify exactly what the differences are in your project vs the stock intake elbow pipe.
