Default STR rear control arms bushings

Ive looked and cant seem to find the (6) lower rear control arms bushings for my 03 STR, there are sets for the regular ones but they say it wont fit the R. Is there anyway to get them or I have to get the whole lower arms?

Im replacing all the worn bushings and its adding up like crazy so far.

Search the forum. This is a very common topic of discussion. 2 of the 3 bushings on the lower control arms can be purchased from E-bay. (Al the STRs and late model DEW98 based Jaguars use fluid filled mono ball bushes.
The plastic covers used on all the bushes in the car rot in a few years, the lubricant leaks out and dries, and within 5-7 years they start going bad.

Upper contol arms, just purchase new ones.

I saw sets of those bushings on eBay but they say it doesn't fit the R in the descriptions. Do you have a link so I can be sure?

What to do with the 3rd bushing in the lower arm then?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/JAGUAR-XJ-S-...b86704&vxp=mtr

On the title and when I put in a vehicle - it says fits the R, but if you scroll down on description it says it doesnt.

Could someone confirm so I can buy the kit, thanks.

And are the rear hydro bushings the same ones used in 2004 and newer front shock bushings? Has anyone measured the rear bushings? I can measure the front ones.

If that's so, Alilfast, it means you can purchase easier to get, and cheaper, front shock bushings.

In the kit, the four hydra bushing will work for all S-type control arms. I don't know about how the large bushing, that they show, compares to the rigidity of the one used in the STR. BUT, on the STR, the 3rd larger bushing is a vulcanized rubber bushing with an inner sleeve and outer shell. In general, the larger bushing doesn't go bad. Inspect it for dry rot and cracks in the rubber.

It used to be that the seller would sell the other bushings by themselves. Look at all the items he has for sale and see if you can purchase only the hydra bushings.
Note: You will find the the original outer bushing is wider than the inner one. They solve this by supplying you with washers/spacers that make it match up with the opening in the hub carrier.

The Jaguar rear suspension uses a semi trailing control arm. This means that the control arms generate tangential forces that run through the bushings normal to their axis of rotation. This is why they have to use mono-ball style bushes. The third larger bushing provides flex and compliance that lets the control arm float a little.
I can tell you by experience, don't use polyflex urethane bushing. The rear end of the Car squished all over the place and created horrible scrub on the tires.

Thumbs up

Thank you so much, that's the confirmation I needed! I did see the separate 4 bushing set. I'll get them. Really appreciate your time again Tijoe

Another comment. In 2003 time frame Jaguar STRs came out with a new rear lower control arm that was cast out of a better aluminum alloy. These control arms have the letters "SC" molded into them on the top of the arm. Over the years Jaguar stopped making the older version, and all the newer Jaguars use the arms with "SC" on them.

Double check that your 03 has these arms and look for the "SC" letters when you remove your arms.

Alifast,
When you get your bushings can I ask you measure them and post their dimensions on this thread? I have front lower shock bushing that we can compare dimensions to.

OD, ID and outer bushing sleeve length would be most helpful.

Hydra bushes for the lower control arm have an OD of 47mm. The inner one is 54mm wide and the stock outer one is 59mm wide. I can't remember the ID for the bolt, either 12mm or 14mm. I am 99% sure the shock bushings have a smaller OD, something like 42mm.
The large bushing has an OD of 55.37+-mm (2.18") A really weird OD.

I finally found out what the SC stands for besides Super Charged.

I have seen a lot of non-SC cars have these markings and I did not understand they became standard across the entire car line.

The forum keeps coming up with new stuff!

What does the "SC" stamp really stand for?

SC = Super Cool?
SC = Suspension Compatible?
SC = AL-SC (SCandium alloy?)
SC = Second Class?
SC = SciliCet

What diameter and widht washer or spacer do I need,and do i put one on each side of the bushing , lower rear control arm or wishbone 59mm bushing.
I think this might be my problem replaced all bushings everthing is fine no squeaking handles fine this only lasts a day or so squeaking comes back bad handling apond inspection i find the bushing in question has moved or rips the center of the hydrabushing apart

Better late than never... sorry for late response. Here are the measurements for front shock bushing.

OD 40 mm
ID 14 mm
outer sleeve length 22 mm

So this settles the fronts are not the same as the rear bushing.
