Default STR Rearend / rear end leak, gasket and oil?

While the car was on a lift, I noticed a leak, it was coming from the top. What do I need, gasket and fluid only? Do I need new bolts or anything else? Anyone have p/ns?

Do you have anything dripping??

My 2005 STR had some oil and dirt on the rear end. I changed the fluid and was careful to measure what came out and what I put in. They matched as close as I could tell. That was 30K miles ago and it's still a bit oily and dirty. I think it's just a small seep or weep. There is no drain plug so I siphoned the old smelly stuff out and put new smelly stuff back in.

No dripping, seems to be coming from the top and it has only seeped about half way down...

Yes. That matches very close to what my 2005 STR has. Never got worse and the slight oily stain came back after I cleaned the rear pumpkin up. Never a drip and barely enough to wipe on my hands.

Well, called the forum sponsor Nalley, they say they do not sell the pinion/ring gasket separately...

Should not be a problem. I have not used a gasket for at least the last 15 years on any car. Just silicone it.

Wanted to follow up on this old post.

Turns out there is a vent on the passenger side on top of the rear diff. It has a short bit of rubber hose that just slides onto the steel section.

It seems that with age and miles you will get some fluid up and out of this tube. I just started to get a few drips of rear end oil on the ground and I think the rubber section has rotted off.

It's hard to get at so I am not sure yet but I have checked the fluid level and cleaned the rear diff as well as I could. I have ordered a new vent tube since they are still available and pretty cheap.

XR81873 about $10 from Terry's Jags. We will see if that is the problem.
