Sway bar
So, my rear sway bar sheared inside the bushing. It must have collected moisture under the rubber because the rest of it is perfect. I have been searching for a used one, and I found a few that are off of XJ8's that say they are compatable. Can anyone confirm this? Mine is a 03 s type late VIN. I really don't want to pay $245 at the dealer.
Thanks
Thanks
I've read that the XJ8 rear sway bars are the same as well. Pictures I've seen of the XJ8 rear sway bars look to be the same as S-type rear sway bars. I recently measured the diameters of my 2000 S-type and 2004 STR rear Sway bars and both measured at 18.2mm. I read Jaguar forum posts, in the XJ forum, that they are 17mm.
I have a question. Can the sway bar be swapped without dropping the sub frame? I couldn't reach the bolts
I am slowly researching/working on installing a larger diameter 3-piece sway bar. I'll use a straight bar with end splines and custom bent arms. Months away at the rate I am going.
Please let me know what you find out.

All things equal, having smaller size(less roll stiffness) anti roll bar at the back will give the car more benign handling characteristics.
If the XJ 17mm bar fits, it's a safe alternative to new 18.2mm bar.

Check my thread in the Suspension & Handling subforum https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...02-x350-94044/ short answer yes the bars are interchangeable, yes you have to drop the subframe.
