This can be a rip off money maker. They check the trouble codes and get a P0121 and shout for joy and tell you that you need another Throttle Body.

Always ask what tests did they do. What is the reference voltage at the Throttle Position Sensor? Should be around 5 volts. Did they check the wiring for shorts to ground or shorts to 12 volt power?

Usually what happens is the the 4 wire plug to the Throttle Position Sensor gets some water or moisture in it and you get some strange warnings about "Park Brake Failure", "DSC Failure" and maybe a check engine light after a few of the warnings.

The first thing to always do before changing the Throttle Body is to unplug the Throttle position sensor. Spray WD-40 on and around the prongs that you now see and spray the inside of the plug too. Then connect and dis-connect the plug several times to clean the contacts and see if that fixes it. A bunch of the folks here got the Throttle Body change and the same problem came around again.

One of the biggest selling point( besides being a JAG) was this car only had 52K miles. I figured I would at least get a years salery into the bank before I needed something major done... TY Glendoramike, I will see how true this mechanicsstatement is.

Try getting the moisture out as that is free or very few dollars. If that doesnt fix it then there is a link around here someone of a company that rebuilds them alot cheaper then 2800 you can remove it send it to be rebuilt and reinstall when you get it back. Hell for under 2800 you can buy all the tools to remove it ship it pay for the rebuild and reinstall it and rent a car while your car is down and still have money left over.

Being a 4.0 wreckers should have plenty so you could even buy a used TB. But check wiring & clean connectors first.

Hey FeltDaddy! I'm down in Eugene! Where did you get a quote like that? Monte Shelton? I had mine rebuilt with a lifetime warranty for $300. Takes a week at most to send it and get it back. If you can do it yourself it's quite cheap, I am not mechanical so I had my mechanic do it, should cost about $500 or so for the whole project. Here are the links. PM me or post here if you have any questions.

More thoughts: you really need the codes. Sometimes they turn out to be about the throttle pedal - known as APP (accelerator pedal position). You don't want to be messing with the wrong part entirely!

Also, resist any temptation to clean or mess with the actual TB at this stage as you could cause problems. The codes will provide insight

Do you need the Throttle Position Sensor or the whole Throttle body. The Throttle Position Sensor $187.80 at the place i get my parts from.

IDLE SPEED ACCENTUATER

Get the DTC code from them. The only codes that your car would throw out that are even close to that ISA call for a whole lot of other stuff to be checked out first, including the air cleaner.

Also, your Throttle body is at the back of the engine and some S types have had problems with water from the wiper area getting into the wiring of the Throttle Position Sensor. Someone posted a Jag service bulletin about it in the S Type forum.

Anybody remember it?

Codes wanted, not gobbledegook words (those really are useless). Sounds like the shop do not know Jaguars

I am willing to bet the moisture issue is going to be most if not all of the problem here. A few weeks before this event I was getting some really weird messages from the instrument panel, one was Rear Tail Lamp Failure, the radio went haywire and lit all of the LED's up randomly. I had to replace the battery the morning after it went into limp mode. If the mechanic does not give me any kind of reasonable answer today I will have to cut my loses with him and get it back home. Thanks all, I will keep you posted.

Those also indicate water in the trunk compartment. Open trunk, lift spare tire cover and look for moisture in the spare tire well.

Just a thought.
