Default Throttle Body Issues

Greetings All,

I have a 2005 S-Type 3 litre. Within the past year I've been going into Limp Home mode with the ECU Fault, DCS Unavailable, Parking Brake Fault. Reading the codes it's a P2135.

I know this can many times be traced to a failing battery, so I replaced the battery with a new one. No Joy, as the problem began to become very common.

I ordered a remanufactured Throttle Body from a company that offers them with a lifetime warranty.

As soon as I finished the install, upon start the engine surged to 4000 RPM and then immediatly went into limp mode with the same symptoms and a P2135 code.

Question for the Wise Ones: Do I need to tweak the TPS on the throttle body to ensure that the idle RPM's are in the correct range? Is there anything else that needs to be done post Throttle Body swap out?

I did disconnect the battery and held the leads together to discharge the system, but it hasn't helped the problem.

Any help or insight at all would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Scott

Scott did you try:

-Ignition ON, engine OFF
-Slowly press accelerator pedal to the floor over a 5 second period.
-Slowly return pedal to rest.
-Repeat 3 times.

Default Good Advice

@ Police. I didn't clean the Throttle Body. I cleaned the Throttle Position Sensor connector and the Throttle Motor Connector. I used Radio Shack electronics cleaner and then thoroughly dried.

@Joyce: Great tip! I'll give it a try!

Sorry, I would have sworn I read you cleaned the tb and that you were wondering if you had not cleaned it well enough. I must have read it on another forum.

Edit

I got mixed up with this thread, https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-until-112046/

Scott - Did you Search on the code and look at previous fixes e.g. JTB00022?

Hey Scott, here is something else that may or may not help out. I knew I read about this code P2135 awhile back and I jut got the chance to look it up.

Pay attention to Brutals posts in the thread (oh if he answers your questions, don't forget to push the "Thanks" button):

Default Still no Joy....

Here's what I did this afternoon.

Disconnected all throttle body connectors and cleaned them. The throttle body motor connector has some broken plastic on the wire side, so I pushed it firmly in place and secured with waterproof electrical tape. (This could be the culprit I realize)

I put everything back together and did a hard reset.

Upon turning the ignition to "On" but not starting the engine, it immediately goes into "Engine Systems Fault - DSC Not available - Parking Brake Fault".

I checked the battery with a Multimeter. 12.67 Volts with the vehicle off, 15.77 with the engine running.

@JAGV8 - The car was always dealer serviced with the previous owner and the dealer was nice enough to send me the service records. The procedure described in that tech bulletin was done.

Any ideas?

Default Occums Razor

Well,

Since the Remanufactured Throttle Body is lifetime warrantied I'm going to remove it and send it back for a replacement unit.

When I get my replacement unit I'll take some pics of the swap out and post them in a thread detailing the process.

One more question,

I can't find DTC P2135 in the JTIS availible on here. Is it possible that it's not the throttle body at all but the accelerator position sensor? Is it possible that it's the throttle motor relay? or would those throw a different code?

from what i can remember its the throttle body and it usually throws that code when it gets wet (str mainly i think) or the connectors/wiring are faulty.

i know you replaced the battery but did you give it a good 24 hour charge before fitting it ?

i bought a new battery and had to have it replaced as it had a bad cell.

I was going to mention that you need to check the plugs I recently had a plug that one of the connectors was bent and contact was not achieved. Along with that you need to check all other connectors related to the harness and I think I recall a recent thread about a harness plug problem at the point where it comes into the car and I think it was on the right side.

Does seem to be TPS not APP.

Mentioned again in Service Action 303-K040v4

(Both TPS & APP are actually each 2 different sensors for cross-checking.)
