After almost 12 years of continuous S-Type ownership, the time has come to say good bye.
Starting with a 2001 then moving to a 2003 STR and finally 2005 STR I have loved owning this model of the Jaguar marque, but with 2008 being the last year produced any new purchase would be an 11 year old car leaving me with a tough decision of what to get next as an S-Type would not be an option.
Having managed to get just shy of 164k miles, the 2005 STR was a great vehicle. Yes, it required plenty of maintenance and yes it was a PIA, but the joy of driving what was a true sleeper made it well worth it.
As my daily driver it ran 140 miles a day, 5-6 days a week on I5 and Hwy99 here in central CA giving an average 21MPG; I can also say hand on heart that it never broken down and stranded me. It did however, go into limp home a few times before I discovered rain getting into the throttle body harness. Had my fair share of flats and 2 cracked rims from the back roads through Lodi.
So good bye to this section of the forum; having turned to it many, many times for help and support the return in value has been amazing.
Kudos to you and best wishes for whatever comes next....
Yes, I should have mentioned what comes next; once you own a Jaguar there is nothing left that fits the bill so I am driving the XKR for now. I have little exposure to the new models Jaguar is producing and will be checking into those as a possible option.
For the time being I will just have to rough it ......................

Well, i think mileage aside, that car would be worth a lot more to the right person.....i guess i will be the lone str between bakersfield and stockton now...good luck on your next one....i am kind of liking the long wheel base, loaded, xjr in the 2011 and newer range if i were to purchase again
More or less off-topic, but what kind of lathe is that in the upper left corner of the picture? I have a 1950ish vintage Atlas (Craftsman) 6x18 lathe. Your lathe looks very similar, perhaps the 12x36 cousin?

Good eye - Its a mid-40's Logan. Very strong and accurate little lathe that I use for fabrication of small parts for the Defender.
