Default Transmission source???

Ok, so I have to get a NEW pan and all the fluid. Just wondering what site is the most reasonable and reliable for pan and fluid for 05' STR?

Also, how much fluid will be needed? (quarts?)

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps JAG dealer quoted 4.5 hours to change pan

Shell M1375.4 Specification to meet C2C 8432 Part # 9.92 (10.5) Liters/quarts

Try searching eBay for a salvage yard near you. Cheaper then factory and they'll guarantee fit and usability

The CTSC - ZF Parts has had good reviews.

The filter is in the pan so I wouldn't use a salvage part, off the top off my head I think 7qts is a good number, it depends how long you let it drain.
Check Joycesjag's thread in the how to section.
Don't forget the electrical sleeve when you have the pan off.

The automatic transmission filter for the '05 STR is available as a separate replaceable part from Rock Auto for the princely sum of $23. The fluid pan is $102.00 and the gasket is another $18.00. The pan was used on a wide variety of Jaguars models from about 2003 on as well as a number of BMW's and Daimlers.

Some warnings here as the British have vey different names for things. They might call the trans oil pan a sump for example. Also just which part are you talking about. On eBay the trans oil pan is a much larger piece then just the lower level and much shallower metal cover that we might think of as the pan.

Check a couple of these so we'll all have a better description of what you're looking for.

They do but it's not the correct filter.
It seems you can buy the filter separate from the pan but only for the metal pans, the Jag uses a plastic pan and the filter is integral.

If the OP needs a new pan I guess he could buy a used metal pan, the difference between a filter change kit for the metal pan and a kit including a new plastic pan is $40 so the used pan would need to be cheap IMHO.

I was unaware that Jaguar used a plastic lower pan. Perhaps that's why the only thing popping up on eBay when searching for transmission pan is what looks to be most of the lower portion of the transmission case itself, including the pan, which is generally listed at about twice the cost of a new metal pan which has plenty of listings at around $100.00.

In that case I'm not sure which direction I'd go if I had to replace mine. Anew metal pan and new filter and gasket, or a filter change kit and plastic pan?

Just be careful if you go changing things from the factory setup!!

The metal pan will change the fluid capacity of the transmission and that's not a problem but make sure who ever does the work truly understands how to properly fill the transmission.

And for God's sake don't forget to change the sleeve! It's only $15 and you can only do it with the pan off.

I would really recommend getting the kit from CTSC. Klaus is an expert on pretty much all things ZF. The prices are the best you will find.

This looks like a good kit, it includes sump/filter, 21 sump screws and 6 ltrs of oil PLUS the GENUINE sleeve:

ZF6HP26 Filter change kit inc oil. ZF6HP26 plastic sump
