Default VIN not recognised

Hi everybody,
I am a new member and this is my first post/thread.

I have the vehicle with the following details:Jaguar S-Type, Manufacture year 2002
Petrol 2.5, V6
2497cc 147KW 200HP
Transmission: Manual
Chassis No. (VIN): SAJAB02N83JM73118
The problem I encounter when ordering parts is that most dealers' programmes do not recognise / identify the VIN. Even this forum VIN decoder does not identify it (see picture attached).
When I search for a part online, the seller says "VINs from M45254 to ....", but never "SAJA ...".
Some other websites though recognise it (but they say the manufacture year is 2003).

Any help?
Thanks

The 10th digit in the VIN is the model year. Yours is "3" and that; coupled with the M73118 certainly points to a 2003.

Also, now that you are here, please stop by the New Members forum and post the expected "introduction" of you and your Jag to the forum community; it can be found here:

Default VIN not recognised

Thank you S-Type Owner,
it could could well be that I (and the documents) have got the year wrong, i.e., that it is 2003.
But it still does not explain why part sellers cannot recognise it.

One other very useful thing I learnt from your reply: That I have to / can identify it starting from M....

I shall of course complete the introduction, probably have to take pictures of the Jag first.

Regards

Parts sellers do not recognize your VIN probably because their software does not recognize the original country destination which the VIN indicates. An example of this: owners of the Canadian model Series III XJ with the V12 engine have exactly the same problem when ordering parts from US suppliers. The Canadian V12 model is simply not in their software base.

In your case, the solution is easy IF you supply only the last part beginning with M….. they are only interested in this last segment if the VIN to determine which part will fit your car.
