A simple question: what is the meaning of life?
Not a simple answer.

Same with your question.

Instead, read up on the specs for the cars. They changed over the years and kept changing. There are old posts on here and tons of info via google.

More: you've posted your approx budget. You simply cannot afford a V8 let alone an R. It's debatable whether you can afford an S-Type at all. Buy something ordinary and save up for another 5 years.

suspension is different, wheels are staggered (believe it or not this makes a huge difference, especially since you cant rotate the tires at all) brakes are different, more actually way more electrical pieces, expensive to replace parts, and also hard to find parts. There was at last totaled, less than 1500 produced. So certain parts once gone, may be gone for good. And did i mention the supercharger?? Oh and the "r" badges, and the mesh front grille, oh and the trunk wing, oh and the tinted taillights, etc etc etc

you might find the insurance a little high
if you do find a car at a good low price then I would be very suspicious of its roadworthyness

No, "R" is not sport... Sport package or model cars are different. The "R" moniker stands for "Racing". When the first "R" model was introduced, the XJR, Jaguar was still involved in racing and used the moniker to distinguish tuned versions of it's cars over the standard models. Basically it was an answer to BMW's M line and Mercedes' AMG line of cars and accessories... Now everyone is into it... Audi has the S-line and so it goes...

Cool! Brochures etc are on www.jag-lovers.org with details of models.
But, any time you see a car it'll have various options (or not) and can make a huge difference to price. So, you'll need a print-out of what a car of interest actually has.

Depends on the year model he is looking for, right? A 2003 "R" here will only go for $10-15K, depending on the miles. Now, new, I could not have afforded mine...

When I posted that he had stated a budget a long way below $10k. And worries about ongoing costs.

So, what is the new budget? 15k? If so, again, an 06 - 07 is out of reach in the regular pipeline. If you are waiting for auction, then we should all stop looking for you as there will not be an 06 worth the investment at that price point....They are going in the low 20's for a good one.

Oh... I guess EVENTUALLY an "R" will be less than $10K. 06-07 are low to mid 20's here if you can find one for sale...

www.texascarsdirect.com scroll way down to the incoming inventory Jags.
They are getting an 05 and 06 STR in soon. no pictures but good description. These guys have nice cars.
Keep in mind buying a Jag especially an "R" is one thing but you better budget for insurance, maintenance and repairs. That can make owning one a whole lot more expensive than a lesser mark.
