What Tools Needed for Trans Fluid Change ?
Hello everyone, I unfortunately will be doing a trans fluid change on my 2005 S-Type V8 4.2 (Non R)...Not saying it's not running or nothing but who wants to do a transmission fluid/pan change LOL
I just purchased everything off of The CTSC - ZF Parts
Kit with new pan & 6 liters of ATF
1 additional liter of ATF (I don't know why just in case)
21 pan bolts
new sealing sleeve
Total came out to $353.46 including shipping...hurt too see $353.46 less in my bank account
but it's in need of a new pan..fluid...and sleeve while I'm at it...when I had my engine oil change mech said trans gasket was leaking a bit...but never got to buying the kit as I hardly drove the car at the time (winter) now it's Spring and warm outside and I'm hauling *** in the Jag
I've never done a trans fluid change on any vehicle but I've read/seen enough on the 6hp26 to where I think I can do it !
Now to the tools, I hardly have any tools...basically none..a few wrenches and such, impact/drill...If you've done a transmission pan/fluid change on a 2005 S-Type 4.2 what tools are required for the task ? Anything that might make the task easier that you didn't have at the time ? I'm asking about the tools so I can purchase online and save a few bucks.
Thanks for reading & the help !

Have you watched Sam's video Jaguar XK8 Transmission Fluid/Pan Change - YouTube that will give you a good idea.
Top Tip....people have had trouble getting the fill plug out, so make sure you can loosen it before you drain the box.

I'm thinking using one of these tools would make the job of removing the drain plug easier don't you think ? Park Bike Bicycle HT 8 8mm Hex Pedal Wrench Tool New | eBay
Yes, I watched it about 3 or 4 times already very helpful...say I wouldn't be able to loosen the drain plug...what to do ?

There's a detailed breakdown of the task & I think tools in one of the other sub-forums on here for the same trans. Might also be something in this one's stickies.
A potential big issue is if one of the little torx screws for the pan rounds off/breaks - have you the ability to get it out and without damage to the pan face...

some of these files might come in handy, it also includes the zf repair manual

Mine Were The BS Undersized Ones..On My Other STR I Had Zero Trouble But, They Were The Updated Ones.
Thanks for the help fellas, quick question though...would anyone happen to know what torx bolts where used in the 05 S-Type 4.2 ? I've seen T27...T25 and some others...I took a peak down there and they look original....I also purchased some new T40 bolts to replace them with some fresh ones.
Thanks
Thanks
The old style fasteners were T27.
The newer ones are T40.
2005 could have either?? but the 2006 I did a few weeks ago had T40.
You could just put your face down under the car and look.
You should probably have BOTH in your toolbox anyway!!!!!!!!!!

Just been playing with mine... You will need an 8mm hex key from which a one inch piece needs to be cut. Used with two 8mm ring spanners, this is your fill plug removal tool. No other way to get it out...
Cheers,
Cheers,
I just put an 8mm allen wrench in the fill plug and a used a small jack handle as a make-shift cheater pipe to loosen it.
An inch pound torque wrench for pan bolts. Clicker or beam. And also for the drain plug. I have both and find the clicker easier to use when on your back
