I do not know about the specific part numbers for all the wheel arch liners, but I know very well, how Ford P/Ns work, and the numbers you are asking about are FORD part-numbers...
I strongly suspect that the 2 wheel arch liners you have do NOT have the same P/N.
You write old and new both have R83-166563...
To start with:
The prefix is not R83, but XR83, as your pictures shows.
That prefix relates to the exact Ford model, where the part was used first.
The number after the prefix is the base-number and describes what part it is, and is usually the same across all Ford carlines.
In this case: 166563 means: wheel arch liner.
Thus, if you are ONLY looking at the prefix and the base number, you may end up with any number of different wheel arch liners, which were introduced in one specific Ford model first, and you have not even made you selection, if that wheel arch liner would be for the left or right or front or rear.
Because you have not mentioned at all, what the suffix of your P/N is!
The suffix follows the base number.
The Ford Part Number system is very sophisticated to a degree where it is simply not possible to order the wrong wheel arch liner, if you tell the seller the number you want.
My first job at Ford was entering Ford P/Ns (or in that case Motorcraft P/Ns (that is the Ford spare part brand) into a data-base.
One of your pictures shows the suffix AD. I don't know, if that was your old liner or the new, but the other liner, which is not the same, would surely not have AD!
With a suffix like AD I expect the following:
- > A should describe, if it is front left, front right, rear left, rear right - i.e. I would expect that you can find P/N variation from A to D.
-> D should describe the update-version, for lack of a better word now, the change-level: The first version released into the system is "A". When engineers decide that this first release
needs to be changed/updated/modified, the second version will have a "B" and so on. "D" means that the initially released part has already been updated 3 times.
And just to complete those explanations: For parts, which have a colour, the suffix will have a third letter, describing the colour. And for a - let's say - fender, which is being sold as spare but only with a base coat, which required painting by the customer, that third letter will be a "W". which means: Yes, this part comes in various colours, but the final colour has not yet been applied.
I don’t have much to add other than I had to get a new left side wheel liner for my 2006 STR and I got one aftermarket was fit perfectly and I think I paid 50 or 60 bucks for it. I think I just searched for 2006 Jaguar S type R wheel wheel liner.
