Default Will shifter from base model fit 2003 S Type R?

Hi. I'm looking for a replacement J-GATE module (shifter) for my 2003 S Type R. The module is shorted out.

Which years and models could I grab a used one from? Are the base model and S Type R shifters different?

Thanks!

03 and up V6 and V8 S-Types recieved the same ZF 6 speed transmission. Shifters were interchangeable.

when you say the V6 and V8 shifters are the same, are you also referring to the supercharged S Type R as well? I just want to be 100% sure before I order the part.

Thank you very much!

And the real way to check: download JEPC and there you have the proper data for all such queries

Just wondering but what leads you to the shorted out comment? It's very rare!

Did your son happen to spill a cup of soda over shifter?

Guys, Sorry for the late reply. I didn't receive an email notification of your replies.

The module definitely has an issue or two. The lock solenoid doesn't work when you step on the brake pedal. It does however work when voltage is directly applied to it. (yes, 12v was present at the J-gate connector). Additionally, the left side of the shifter (manual side) did not work. None of the lights lit up on it, either.

I replaced it with one from an 2003 non-STR V8 model, and it works great. There are a couple slight differences, but nothing that seems to affect its function.

Thanks for your replies!

Hi guys,
Thank you very much for your responses. So I shared with the dealer my reservations that it was actually an S (when I first checked out the car about a week ago, I asked the salesperson if it was actually an S and his response was, oh turns out you're right, it is!). At first, they tried to tell me that it was actually an S but the previous owner had just gotten a different options package to not have all the badges. I insisted that they check the original invoice, and they finally called back to say, well yes it is the base with the 340 hp but it does have a lot of extra features like the 19 in wheels, back up camera, heated seats, dynamic exhaust...
Thanks to your tips, I was able to stand my ground and not be convinced that it was really an S. Despite those nice features I couldn't go with it, it was just too much how they were a bit misleading. Plus, wasn't even CPO despite those low miles.

So I'm deciding to go with this one https://www.jaguarnorthhaven.com/inv...wa6at9g8k32841 . Maybe a bit more boring with just the 18 inch wheels and basic options package but I do like the extremely low mileage. It'll be my first time owning a Jaguar and I'm definitely looking forward to it!

I'm guessing that you meant to post this in a thread in the F-Type forum instead of this old thread.
