Default At Wits End - P2135 TPS Code - Remanufactured Throttle Body

Hi folks,

I've got a 2005 S-Type with 93,000 miles on it. About a year now I've been having Throttle Body issues. I've cleaned all of the contacts, replaced the battery, everything. I bought a remanufactures Throttle Body from ASI in Tenessee. The first one I got installed threw the fault code the second I got the key to position 2. I sent it back (Lifetime Warranty) and they sent me a replacement. In the interim, I reinstalled the original, and with the new battery, the issue seemed to resolve. Within the last three days the original started throwing the code and going into limp home mode, so I installed the 2nd remanufactured one. Same scenario, it throws the code the instant I get the ignition into position 2. The car will start, but stays in limp home mode.

I have tried to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery negative and holding to the connected positive for 30 seconds. The battery was disconnected during the switchout, which took about 45 minutes.

Is there anything I'm missing? It's strange, although certainly not impossible that I'd have gotten two faulty units in a row from ASI.

I'm just wondering if there is any step that I'm missing to get the car "used" to a different Throttle Body assembly.

One more thing, the vehicle only goes into limp home mode when coasting at low RPM. Less than 2000, but never at idle. At least that's the situation with the original T/B.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Scott

Default Tsb

Jag,

My vehicle doesn't fall into the VIN range for that TSB. Will the dealer still do it?

2003-2005: P2135 = Throttle Position related fault, meaning throttle body
2006-2008: P2135 = Pedal Position Sensor related.

This is why it ALWAYS has to be known what model year and engine system is being discussed. Otherwise you go off in the wrong direction; possibly in an expensive way.

The OP needs to have some competent circuit diagnosis done to get to the bottom of his issue; especially given the throttle body has been substituted to no avail.

Cheers,

Good to know, though not encouraging.

A thought on this: there may be a re-learn process but it would likely only occur if the battery was disconnected (or OE-tool KAM clear).

So, when the replacement was fitted was the battery disconnected afterwards? (during would be wiser)

JagV8,

The battery was disconnected during the swap. In addition, I left the battery disconnected for 36 hours after the initial error code (P2135).

I reconnected yesterday and the error re appeared when I moved the ignition switch to position II, even before I started the engine.

I did use an OBD2 device to clear the codes, but they instantly reappear.

I'd be looking at wiring & connectors next.

When I had this code I pulled the pins out of the housing and pushed them on directly on the TB pins and voila! No more codes! It has been this way since November and code has not come back!

You are saying “codes” And in my first post and this one I am asking for ALL the codes that you captured. Using all the codes should help in narrowing down the problem.

Hi Gus,

The only code I get is P2135. I misspoke when I said "codes".

Smile Just got the P2135 Code Dealer Wants to replace Throttle Body

Hi All,
I have an 05 Jag STR that went into limp home mode, DSC fault, Park Brake Fault, etc. Took into dealer on Saturday, got back to me today and voila, says needs new Throttle Body, threw code 2135.

What are my other options. Looked at Technical Bulletin and I don't think mine applies as it's an 05 (Brembo's). My husband is a very well versed mechanic and we have a lift in our home, so it's worth a shot.

It can throw that code with those other messages solely because the battery is no longer adequate.

Replacement TPS are now available to buy separately, there are a few threads here on the forum, also in the X350 and X-Type section where is mentioned. Do a search for P2135 you should find it.

Quick Update,

I purchased and installed a new, OEM Throttle Body from SNG Barratt. The price was amazingly low, it took them a couple of weeks to get the part but it arrived safely, I installed it, and the car now runs GREAT!

Great news Scott!

Can you post the part number and price you paid?

Will you send back the rebuilt one? Seems like they sent you the wrong one or it was not rebuilt correctly?
