Default Wonky displays. And so it begins.

I ended up giving the car a boost this morning as I thought my new battery was dead. Turns out my adjustment on the shifter cable was a little too generous and now very infrequently when I put it in park the R stays illuminated. I didn't notice this right away so I put another good battery in parallel with the old with jumper cables. Of course this made no difference and so I started looking elsewhere and discovered the real problem.
But now all displays on the car are gone - odometer, climate and radio. All functions seem to work in the latter two, I just can't see anything. It was working until I boosted the battery, which I was careful to do properly.
I checked all the fuses in the trunk, which are okay, but before I start scrambling further, anyone have any suggestions?

Could try a hard reset. disconnect the battery for about 20 mins or so, then hook it up and try again. Be surprised what a hard rest can fix...lol

rattlenbang, would be nice to know what vehicle you are inquiring about.

After you post year and model, I would recommend that you go to the upper left corner(ish) on any forum page and click "UserCP", scroll down and click "Edit Signature", fill in year, model, engine and any other vehicle info that you feel is necessary, click "Save". POOF now your vehicle information is in your signature and we don't have to ask and waste your time and ours!

Sigh. well, if my first post didn't qualify me as a knucklehead, this one will. Turns out when I was scraping off the chicken poop from the interior, I accidentally hit the dimmer control. Still WTF? I've never had car with a dimmer that would completely extinguish things like odometer and controls. background dash lights, sure, but not completely blank out 3 important displays. Wonder how much $$ jaguar dealers have made off of that over the years? I can see a learning curve here...

Great to see you got that 1 bagged!

Wait until you accidentally hit the valet button in the glove box.

Thank you for getting your details in your signature.

Been there already. I do search before posting, and that time it popped right up. Nice when it turns out simple.

I don't believe my 2005 STR panel dimmer completely blanks any display items. Although I would be interested if there was a way to make it dimmer still as at night on rural roads I still find it too bright even at thenlowest
