Red face year 2000 3.0 V6 inclination sensor.

Might be a stupid question but English isn't my native language as I'm from Holland and I like to be sure before messing things up.

My Old S Type which is from march 3th 2000 has an inclination sensor mounted in the trunk.
I use this car (the green one in "my Garage" ) as a parts donor car.

My "new" S type which is from May 3th 2000 doesn't have the inclination sensor but the wiring and connector is there.

I'm I correct in thinking the inclination sensor is part of the jaguar alarm system in case the car is lifted or jacked up ?
And can I just take it out and connect it in the new car ?

Thanks upfront
Jurgen

Jurgen,

The sensor you are referring to in the trunk is a level sensor (pointometer) related to the CATS system. (computerized struts) I suspect that the car you want to install this item in doesn't have CATS system as an option.

Easiest way to figure this out is look at the front struts in the engine bay - if you see an electrical wire coming out of the strut - then you have CATS and should have that pointometer already installed in the trunk.

Hi Abonano.

I did some more searching and have to disagree with you, The car the sensor came out of doesn't have the wires on the struts. and after finding a manual I now know the inclination sensor is an extension to the cars security system.

It only engages when the deadbolt function on the alarm is used and activates when the car is tilted or jacked up.
Deadbolt is activated by pressing the lock button two times withing 3 seconds.

But thanks for taking the time to reply and offer an idea

Jurgen

Jurgen,

Those of us who use Cross Channel ferries from England to the Continent are well used to the Inclination Sensors activating car alarms when the North Sea gets rough!

There is a Part Number change on the Inclination Sensor (item 2) at VIN M45255.

Provided both cars are within the same VIN range, the Sensor will be compatible.

However, I think it could be more complicated than just fitting the Sensor from your old car to the new one. I would expect any additional or replacement Sensor will have to be programmed to the security system with the Jaguar Dealer diagnostics equipment.

Graham

i wouldn't plug it in you might mess up the alarm immobiliser system.

besides, do you need it, are the many people stealing 14 year old cars by towing them away ?

Hi

I already have it plugged in haven't tested it yet but no complications so far.

vin of the donor car is L57821
vin of the new car is L69244.

The part numbers in the screen print are superseeding part numbers most of the time the part is the same only the number changed.

My Guess is it's just a switch type thing so little chance of something going wrong. will test it someday this weekend.
