As there have already been 3 updated waterpumps, are we talking about a 4th?

 

So we are well into September and my Jaguar Dealership and I have not heard anything about an updated water pump. Anyone else know anything?!?!?

 

Still no news? Anyone know anyone that knows anyone that would have info???

 

Went by the Bellevue, WA Jag dealer today to get some parts, and there was a 2010 XK up in the shop in the midst of an engine swap due to water pump failure. Tech said the guy must've driven it a while because it had coolant in the oil due to overheat.

<shrugs> Another data point. What would be interesting is to have this correlated with XJs and Range Rovers using the 5L motor -- are they having failures too? If not, maybe we have a problem unique to the packaging in the XKs.

 

This defective water pump problem must be costing Jaguar a little money. Is Jaguar using the same water pump in the F-type V8 S and R?

 

C2Z28248 still seems to be the current part number and it is listed for the XK, XF, XJ and F-Type.

 

The fix for the water pump may be the new way the coolant is routed out of the water pump. I believe it allows for better flow and less back pressure. The two part numbers for the new hoses are AJ813565 and C2Z28467.

 

Well, if the failures don't cross over into other models or Land Rover... then yeah, it's got to be something specific to the XK implementation. I suppose hoses would make sense then.

 

So is that the upgrade?!? Hoses?!? Not really a new water pump or ?

 

I check my coolant reservoir level once a month for at least a minimum precautionary measure.

 

If the problem is caused by excess back-pressure, and the new hoses reduce that, then that may be the fix.

 

I had my local jaguar dealership look up the numbers given by the poster that listed hoses and tubes saying that was the fix:

AJ813565 is a HOSE description listed at a price of 36.82
C2Z28467 is a TUBE description listed at a price of 36.57

Dealer prices.

Now then nobody I know knows for sure if this is exactly the fix?!? Is the latest water pump required to use these tubes/hoses??? Is it advised to update/replace all parts at once?? It is advised to do so if you have not had a low coolant warning but yet your water pump number, as mine as, has been superceded!?!?

this is of MAXIMUM IMPORTANCE... was just told today by dealership he had a few more pump failures... ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME!! If there is a fix we need to make sure we know exactly what to request and GET IT DONE!!

 

Even if this information is correct, the replacement is going to be entirely at the owner's cost. This certainly will not be covered under any factory or extended warranty unless there is a failure of the part.

 

I just had my local dealer look these up as I'm up for scheduled maintenance. Parts guy says that these are for normally aspirated 5.0L for a VIN range after mine (mine is a VERY early 10). Does that mean we have different piping immidiately after the water pump between XK and XKRs?

 

So... XK pumps different from XKRs. We should start tracking failures for each to see where the design flaw is.

THE #’S YOU SUPPLIED ARE FOR THE WATER RAIL AND T-STAT, SUPERCHARGED CARS HAVE AN AUX PUMP AND RADIATOR FOR THE SUPERCHARGER, THE WATER PUMPS FOR THE ENGINE ARE A DIFFERENT PUMP.

Wow, A very long read, and disappointing to hear of a cooling system failing on the new 5.0 design. Odd the 4.2 has not gotten a bad pump reputation (Just thermostat).

So my question is if the internal seal is allowing fluids to weep by and damage a bearing, could you switch to waterless coolant and prevent the weepage?

My thought is without pressure (waterless does not pressurize the cooling system), the seal should hold far longer.

Might be worth review for this scarey problem.

I'm not 100% certain, but there is a chance that my coolant level in the reservoir is ever so slightly lower after 2500 miles of driving. I'm not totally certain how high it was topped off to begin with, but now If anything, we are talking about a few ounces. I know if it gets any lower. It still reads full on the side when cold. If so, I will address my local dealer before bringing it in. They don't replace water pumps unless there is a significant leak. I'll try both of my nearest dealerships to see who has the more favorable response.

 

Holy crap... Part isn't ever for the XKR... Ugh!

 

Looks like the issues may be with the normally aspirated one, not the XKR. I know the one I saw at the dealer a couple weeks ago was an XK, and not an R.
