Just took delivery of my 1994 Jaguar XJS 4.0 Coupe, beautiful white, tan leather interior in good shape, 136,000 miles.
Paid $5600, mainly because the body is very solid. I'm more mechanically inclined and didn't want to mess with body, paint, rust, or worn interior. It was driven regularly for 22 years, so it hasn't sat for years, and it's spent its life in the South, clean Carfax.
I had it pre-inspected and there are some minor issues I'll likely have to address: minor oil leaks in engine and diff, dry rotted sway bar links and tranny mount, worn belts, washer pump nonfunctional, a couple of interior lights out. Not bad for 136k miles.
Major issues that are top on my list: inspector said ABS and brake lights come on, but I haven't noticed it yet. Hopefully just worn pads. So I'll be doing a full brake service, possibly replacing rotors and some lines, and a full ABS check.
One thing I immediately didn't like: no cowl to hide the wiper blades! I want to see the beautiful hood, not these blades sticking out at odd angles. No biggie, though.
One thing that has to go are the wire wheels (Dayton, I presume). Inspector says they're loaded with weights, likely warped, and I doubt they have been maintained in years, especially if they were a dealer add-on when bought. So I found a set of 15" Teardrop wheels on eBay that I'll be refurbishing and use with these tires.
I have a high-mileage '07 BMW Z4 Coupe, sweet car, so the miles don't scare me. I can do the mechanical stuff. I wanted a true Grand Tourer as well, and have been looking at Jaguars for years and finally decided to pull the trigger.
I come from a modern muscle car background: '04 GTO with a 500rwhp motor I built myself, and recently an '11 Camaro SS, supercharged that put out 720rwhp and ran low 10's in the 1/4-mile. Here's my racing video page: https://www.youtube.com/user/PadreYT . Fun hobby, but too expensive in the end. I bought this car for less than I paid for the supercharger on the SS. And I'll have just as much fun with it.
I've been around car forums since there were car forums, so I hope to enjoy and contribute here.
The style of your XJS is my favorite. Now if only it was Black! LOL
Nice car. Teardrops are without a doubt the Prettiest wheels ever made. Good Choice.

Welcome to the forum Padre,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Wise decision. You could easily spend way more than the purchase price fixing a superficially tidy but rusting XJS.

Thanks Elinor. Black was my first choice, but the white is nicer than I expected. At least it will be easier to keep clean.
My Z4 is black, so it can be my car, and the XJS will be my car.
If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.
