Nice work, indeed. I've a similar double flaring tool. It helped me resolve issues in fitting my lump. And before that in an old Hot Rod project.


I, too, like Nylocks. But, did the heat of grinding destroy the "plastic"? I have used heat to make mere nuts out of NYlocks.

The Heat from the Grinder seemed to make the Nylocks even better than they were before, as it spread the Nylon all the way down the Thread which I could feel as I was Screwing them on.

And since they are bigger than 'Half Nuts' you've got a really chunky piece to get a Spanner on, so if I ever need to take them off it should make it much easier.

The Calipers were Brand New as opposed to Recon Units, so I've still got the Old ones which I could refurbish for Spares.

But I haven't been having a lot of luck with Suppliers, as one of them sent the wrong Brake Hoses and another one sent the wrong Brake Pads!

So I decided to 'push the boat out' and get a Set of Brembro, which should be delivered on Wednesday.

Otherwise I would probably have her done by now (Weather Permitting!)

 

It may look easy because it actually is easy. I'm no fabricator. I doubt I could make a brake pipe. I just buy 'cos easier... Anyone can assemble a puzzle but to make it requires skills...

I would never take the Engine out unless I really absolutely had to, so you are the one who deserves all the credit not me.

Even with a Manual, I wouldn't know where to start, so I would have to send you a First Class Ticket and Fly you out to the UK.

No, it really is simple mate. Not much you can do wrong. If I had done it all at once and not a bit jere a bit there, it would have been out within about 6 hours...

I was just about to spend a 'Tenner' on a Bender but then I changed my mind, as it really wasn't something that I felt I really needed, as much as a Second Hand Paintbrush.



Any old Paint Brush will do, providing the Hole in the Handle is the Right Size.



Using a Spanner, Screw the 'Male End' of the Brake Pipe into the Hole in the Handle.



I wanted a Short Tight Kink Free Curve on the end that goes into the Caliper, so I worked it round on my Thumb.

What I didn't want is a Tight Right Angle to Start With.

Using an Old Caliper to demonstrate, I wanted the Brake Pipe to hang out at an Angle as it gave me more 'Jiggle Room' to Screw the Male end of the Brake Pipe into the Caliper


Once I'd Screwed the Male end of the Brake Pipe into the Caliper, just a bit more than Finger Tight.


I Started Curving the Top of the Brake Pipe over with my Thumb and then gradually tightened the Right Angle up near the bottom of the Brake Pipe by pulling the Middle of the Pipe towards me, being very careful not to 'Kink' it,


Easier to do than try and explain.


At this Point the Threaded part of the Flexy will get in the way, so I lowered the Flexy Threaded Part right down in the Holder, pulled the Metal Pipe over into position and then Raised the Threaded Flexy Pipe and Connected them both together.


And this was exactly the shape of the Curve that I wanted.





Just the kind of Curve that I was after!

I've always wanted a Set of Brembo Brake Pads, as they have the kind of 'Cachet' that words cannot describe and have always had a certain mystique about them, where among the Cognoscenti, they get spoken about in hushed Terms.

In a way that you might do when you suddenly stumble upon the 'Holy Grail' and that is more or less exactly what I went and did, when I found them On-Line at a Motor Factors.

And although they looked expensive, they were exactly the same design as I had been using on my XJS for years and so I very simply had to have them, as when you drive the kind of Car that can

'Snap Knicker Elastic' at 100 Yards.

The Budget at 'Orange Blossom Towers' went right out of the Window!

Those expensive Coffee lattes, would just have to wait and the GF would be drinking bottled water from now on until it started coming out her ears.

In that kind of Situation its always hard to be humble, so I won't even bother to try but alas that dream was not about to be, as when they turned up on the doorstep they were a totally different design to the ones that I had ordered.

I don't mind admitting I was 'gutted' as they were nothing like the ones that I had used before, which was when I realised that the whole problem was caused by advertising stuff like that with a 'Generic Design'

Which meant the Pads that I received were not what I wanted, as when it comes to Brake Pads, then I'm the kind of guy, who tends to like to stick with the tried and trusted, as the ones I had been using suit me and my Car.

And although they may have improved it, I would rather stay with what I know and so unfortunately I felt they had to go and with so many 'Frapups' with Stuff I'd bought on line, sometimes there's nothing for it but to get into the Car and go and pick them up.

Returning one hour later with a Set of EBC which had Pads of Kevlar and were of the same design that I had used before.

Kettle on! Cup of Tea! and then 'Bang!' they were on, with a Brand New fitting Kit that was doing all it could to try and Glisten in the pouring rain!


Oh Yeah! that's more like it!
Now let's Bleed the Brakes,

If the picture shows them, then the standard black pads. They are basically not uprated but standard road pads.
