Cherry Blossom - Restoration 1990 XJS V12
Hi Elinor
Mine looks exactly the same as that but I'm not going Shopping with you! as I'm the 'Bargain Hunter' remember! (LOL) and mine was made by Einhell in Germany and also comes with a 3 year guarantee and only Cost £50 without the Battery and Charger, which would be about another £30
But as I am already hooked into their Eco System, I've already got loads of Batteries 20V 4AH to go with all my other Cordless tools
Don't buy the 2AH Batteries as they haven't got enough OOmph! but probably ideal for a Cordless Drill as it makes it easier to handle in tight spaces
I've already Tested their Guarantee on a Cordless Jigsaw and they sent me a Brand New one! without any Quibble whatsoever, although I've still got the one that broke that I might be able to Fix when I get the time, where the problem seems to be these German Tools are so well made
That the moving parts that are in them have got such Tight Tolerances, that according to those who know, you need to run them at Full Speed for the first few jobs you do in order to bed them in, before you try and use them at a lower Speed
But these Hand Held Cordless Band Saws are getting such good reviews, that I am already wondering how I am ever going to manage without it!

(I'll remind him of those words) First thing I'll do is Ditch all the hacksaws! (Hate those things anyway)I can think of Several places I could use a Cordless Band-saw, (see what you've done?) so I'll be on the lookout for one for Much less money than at Amazon.

Why I decided Not To Pull The Plug On My XJS 4.0L Convertible!
'It's Not What You Think!'
As I was planning to sell this Car, which seems to be rather doubtful now as Prices have taken a Hit in the economic climate that we have in the UK, I have more or less decided to keep her a bit longer, as I really wasn't intending to sell her for 'Peanuts' especially after all of the Hard Work that I put in'It's Not What You Think!'
It not just Time and Money but more of a Genuine feeling of Love for this Car, where a lot of emotion has also been invested, in order to try and make her as nice as She can be, as while not a 'Garage Queen' She's very nice and one of the Best that I have ever seen
So as the Weather has turned out fine and looks to be staying that way for sometime yet, I thought I would give her an Oil Change, where following the Advice from my 'Partner in Grime' Paul (Ptjs)
Who is not so much a 'Guru' as an undisputed 'Legend' when it comes to 'Facts and Figures' about these Cars, 'What Paul Doesn't Know You don't need to Know' if you get my drift and so when Paul gives me advice, I know that he knows just what he is Talking about
As for me I'm ashamed to say that I think I sort of know what I am doing, which is largely based on guesswork and trying to remember what I had done before, while at the same time grateful, for all the Help and Advice that I have received from you Guys on the Forum, including Forum Guru's 'Greg and Grant
Without who's help, I do not think that my Car would have ever got back on the road
But as for now or should that be then, I am about to do an Oil Change, where on a V12 you might normally take the Sump Plug out, although on a 4.0L according to Paul (Ptjs) that may not always be a good idea, especially if the Sump Plug looks to be Corroded to the Sump, as unlike on the V12 the 4.0L Sump is Aluminum
Which in itself then poses a Risk that if you are not Careful or even if you are, there is a possibility that you could Snap a hole in the side of the Sump and so you 'Pays your money and makes your Choice' and so it really just depends how bad that Corrosion is, or maybe just how bad you 'Think' it is
Though as I didn't want to 'Roll the Dice' I decided to err on the Side of Caution and go for 'Plan B'
Where 'Plan B' is Sucking the Oil out of the Sump, rather than taking the Sump Plug out, so that it could pour into a Container, which under normal circumstances is the way to do this that I normally prefer
Though Sucking the Oil out of the Sump, might suit those who do not fancy crawling around underneath, in all the Grit and Grime like I usually do!
Now while I'm not exactly sure as to what device Paul (Ptjs) may have been using, I decided to 'Splash some Cash' on what it supposed to be the proper tool for the job and though I cannot remember how much, it really wasn't expensive and so I went and bought it anyway
It's Basically just a Suction Pump, that has a 12volt Motor with a Small Bore Pipe that goes down the Tube of 'Dip Stick' when you take the 'Dip Stick' out and although its quite Slow and can take about 30 Minutes to empty the Sump, its actually pretty good at what it does
Although I Changed the Oil Twice just to make sure it was Clean and will use the First Oil Change in my 'Cherry Picker'
The Video will explain it so much better than I can
Hi Greg
Cheers you are right! possibly standing unused for too long?
Although She Starts on the Button with excellent Oil Pressure, I did a Video of that which I may put up later if I can find it

Hi Lnr
It is now as I had to take her for her Annual MOT Test this Morning and although She passed the Test OK She came back from the Garage with a problem!
As Now the AUX Cooling Fan, won't Switch off, it just keeps running Continuously!
So I'm suspecting the MOT Tester, must have gone and disturbed a Wire or something!
Another little problem to sort out
And just in case you didn't realize, the more Petrol you put in the Higher the Fuel Gauge rises, in direct proportion to your Bank Balance going down!

I want a small lathe and milling machine. Best region to buy is up north (U.S.) as that is where most of the industry is/was. Machining is a component of my skill set obtained during my employment history. I still have all the micrometers, calipers, gauges, indicators, etc., etc. plus a BUNCH of tooling. Just need the right deal and permission from the Boss/Wife.
In Other Bad News
I Had Tax Not Only The XJS V12 But Also My Merc 190e
Situation Normal So What Could The Problem Be!
With the Benefit of Hindsight, maybe I should have left Taxing the XJS until April 1st to try and avoid any impending Road Tax increases but then I thought I may as well Tax it for the Year instead of 6 Months as I normally do and use the Car a bit more, instead of leaving in the Garage as we still get some nice days in the WinterI Had Tax Not Only The XJS V12 But Also My Merc 190e
Situation Normal So What Could The Problem Be!
And so while screwing up my eyes to try and hold back the Tears, I then said a Final Farewell to the princely sum of £345 smakeroos! which I suppose is a Bargain when Compared to the Pleasure you get from driving these Cars but still a bit of a Rip Off if you only do Low Mileage as some of us do
As in any event it won't cost much to Tax my daily driver, my Merc 190e that has only 4 cylinders, when compared to the Jags 12
So if you just about to go and Tax whatever little Car you're driving, you better go and hide behind the Sofa and also Stick your Fingers in your ears! because and this is hard to believe and I have no reason to want to lie to you! (Drum Roll) My little Four Cylinder Merc Cost as Much to Tax as my 12 Cylinder XJS another £345 Smakeroos!
Where the powers that be must just think up a Number and then double it! or at least it seems that way to me!
And then of Course there's the Insurance, so please don't get me started on that one as well!
The End Of An Era!
Just coming up to 500,000 Views since February 2013 and already I am wondering where the time has gone, or whether I still enjoy driving my XJS V12 as much as I used to way back thenLots of adventures and so many 'Bitter Sweet' moments to look back on but the fact of the matter for me anyway, is that Motoring just isn't fun anymore and so I've decided to call it a day for the foreseeable future, as I now have lots of other projects to work on
In any event this Forum has been a lot of Fun, as well as being a privilege to have been part of, though no doubt I may pop in from time to time and though I want to thank you all, I cannot turn the lights off without saying a Special 'Thank You' to Greg and Grant and Paul (Ptjs) and Jacobra and LnrB
Good Luck and Happy Motoring
Best Wishes
Alex
Alex,
You've brought a lot of enjoyment to me and so many forum members with your anecdotes, projects and stories. It has brought a great dimension to the forum as well as helping many owners with their own challenges.
We all go through different phases in our passion with our cars. And sometimes we just need space for other interests and aspects of our lives. (I've been less active myself since March due to spending time overseas, but a clean MoT pass this morning for my 4 litre has given me a sense of enthusiasm to get it out in the sunshine we're having)
So good luck in your new projects, although I'm sure the lure of your big cats will have you popping back here soon!
Take Care
Paul

No OB? on the Forum??? What is going on? Have I fell asleep somewhere along the way? This can't be happening. I have followed your many adventures and misadventures, with almost youthful glee as you embarked on many things that were clearly, way out of your skill set / comfort zone. And yet with some guidance from everyone here, you came out on Top with the correct answers, and a running Jaguar, or whatever you were working on. The thought of days ahead with no OB. Will be a little less eventful, and a little less memorable. As you taught us all you don't have to be the greatest, or smartest mechanic, in the place. You simply have to "Try!"
Your courage and enthusiasim, has helped us all in one way or another, and as I am recently retired I'm gaining a lot of my Whantoo, back. The projects are begining to get done. I hope you are not gone from us for very long, as your courage to take on "things," has inspired the best of us. Good Luck in all you do Alex. Your Friend from the other side of the Pond.

WHAT?!
WAIT A MINUTE!!
I TURN MY BACK FOR A MERE 3 DAYS DEALING WITH MY OWN DISASTERS AND ALEX IS LEAVING US!!?
Or at least taking an extended leave of absence...
I agree with Jack; you won't be able to stay away for very long.
I wish you well in whatever future endeavors you decide to conquer.
See ya around, Alex, it's been a Whale of a lot of fun.
