Sure, its the single connector circled in red...just need to unplug it.

I would like to try this on my 2016. Unless Im missing something obvious, how do you get the spoiler back down after the motor has been unplugged?

The steps I plan on taking are as follows:

1. Raise and remove spoiler. I dont think it has to be removed, but looking at it raised, removing it should make access to the tamper proof screws easier.

2. Remove plate under spoiler to access motor under plate, unplug motor.

In order to access the plate, the spoiler must be raised, but this also raises the brackets for the spoiler. The brackets dont fold back down without the motor powering them, or do they?

Please let us know how you achieved this, as I would love to disable the automatic spoiler. Seeing it raise for a quick blast around town isnt so bad since it lowers again fairly quickly. But having it raised at constant freeway speeds is a bit much for me.

 

Guys, I want to disable my rear spoiler as well. I understand from this thread how to unplug the rear spoiler motor but I still don't understand how you get it to go back down after you unplug it ?

 

I'd also like to know the answer to this as well...

 

I love the trash can lid analogy - after you press the foot pedal LOL! - I knew it reminded me of something, damn perfect! It is just not attractive, I'd rather go airborne.

 

anyone know which tool can remove the tamper proof screws? it looks like a torx security bit but unless I'm missing a few sizes, I can't seem to find one that fits.

 

Does it have a security pin in the middle? If so, you need special Torx for that.

 

You 'could' just put a few heavy items on it and press the button...

 

Yeah..but then it would just start flapping in the breeze. That wouldn't look pretty either.

 

The spoiler is a nuisance at 70, the front of the car gets really light at 130 mph plus, feels a bit scary

 

I really need to disable the spoiler, as my driver's licence is in jeopardy and I don't want to give the popo any reason to pull me over. In my neck of the woods a raised spoiler would be like a red rag to a bull. Trouble is, despite the question being asked several times in this thread, no-one has explained how to get the spoiler back down again once you have unplugged the power lead. I just tried to manually "push" the spoiler down, both with the ignition on and off, but it didn't budge and I wasn't game to push all that hard for fear of damaging the spoiler. Anyone?

 

Have you tried getting at the connector through the interior hatch trim rather than the spoiler side?

 

Well that didn't work!
Went down the local auto parts store and bought a set of Torx security bits.
None of them fitted, it seems the Jag screws are not the normal type. The T27 almost fitted but had no grip at all, just not the right shape.
Had a look at Lance's idea of accessing the plug from the underside - no chance without pulling off all the panels from the underside of the hatch, right up to the roof, not something I am game to have a go at.
Looks like I'm stuck with a normal operating spoiler for now.

 

I have to imagine that someone with the SDD tool should be able to change the operational speed parameters since the coupe and vert are set differently.

 

I've already asked Cambo about this and he said it's not something he has been able to find in the CCF via SDD, and it's probably buried way deep in the electrical system somewhere.

 

ok so I don't want to jump the gun on this but in preparation for installing my GT spoiler from Piecha (I didn't want to cut the metal rods as the instructions stated), I played around with the wiring for the rear spoiler. I still need to road test it this weekend to make sure it's fully disabled but I made a little harness with an interrupt toggle and hid it under the trunk close button.

It seemed like the connector below is what was providing power to the motor assembly and without it, the motor is dead... I used that as my target point for the harness.




The harness interrupts the power going from this connection directly to the motor. Without it, it shouldn't move. Since I didn't want it permanent, I used a 15A toggle which would either allow me to provide power to the motor or not, depending on the direction of the toggle (on/off pretty much). This is where I hid the toggle. I just pull out the trunk button and my toggle is right inside. Out of the way, clean, unseen.




Finding a male & female version of that power connector was sort of a pain in the *** but I didn't want to do any cutting / splicing of the motor electric system. I'll post more details about it after I road test it to make sure it works as intended.

 

Any new in ways to deactivate the spoiler via programming/mechanical ways without setting off all kinds of codes? I was hoping the VAP guys would have done something here by now.

 

Just cut the rod and be done with it.
